Klitschko Chagaev Odds - Chagaev biting off more than he can chew
The Klitschko Chagaev odds were sort of thrust upon us by accident, but it was bound to happen anyway. Online betting handicappers were expecting a David Haye-Wladimir Klitschko fight this month, which didn’t happen, as well as a Ruslan Chagaev-Nikolay Valuev fight, which also didn’t happen. Instead, we’ll see the two best fighters of that foursome square off on June 20th, since the Klitschko Chagaev odds are what everyone wanted to see.
Klitschko Chagaev odds: Klitschko -750 favorite
- Chagaev barely beat Valuev; does he stand a chance against Klitschko?
- Klitschko an underappreciated Champion
- Chagaev has power, but Klitschko has smarts, mobility and savvy
Many boxing betting handicappers feel that the Klitschko Chagaev odds will in fact put the best two fighters in the heavyweight division (outside of the Klitschko brothers, who won’t fight each other) in the same ring. But one has to wonder if Chagaev is ready for this sort of a challenge. The heavyweight division in boxing has been a who’s who of scrubs for a long time, but the Klitschko brothers have at least dominated that landscape. It’s unclear whether Chagaev has emerged from that crop or is just another challenger who’ll flock back to the herd after he loses.
Chagaev, known as “The White Tyson”, is a tough, compact fighter, but Mike Tyson he is not. But he does have one thing that Klitschko should be very wary of: determination. The sportsbook odds makers have made Klitschko a huge favorite on the Klitschko Chagaev odds, but Klitschko doesn’t have a whole lot to prove. He’s dominated a soft division for a while and hasn’t been challenged very much. Meanwhile, Chagaev is a hungry fighter - it was visible when he fought and defeated Russian giant Nikolay Valuev. But if that’s Chagaev’s signature win, then he’s in trouble.
The reason The White Tyson is such a big dog on the past Klitschko Chagaev odds is because defeating a big, slow-prodding oaf is one thing - topping one of the most intelligent surgeons in boxing is quite another. The Klitschko Chagaev odds makers have it right: Klitschko is the smarter fighter than Chagaev, and he is more mobile. In the grand scheme of things, Klitschko is an underrated champion. He is underappreciated since there about 1000 belts in the heavyweight division, but he has fought just as well as many of the previous champs in the division. On June 20th, he’ll prove it one more time.
While Chagaev has the power, the Klitschko Chagaev odds give him about a puncher’s chance. In a fight against one of the smartest boxers around, that won’t be enough.
