Marcos Maidina Betting – Morales Could Be Done After Meeting With Maidana
Online betting players may remember Erik Morales from battles with some of the best that boxing has to offer, but even though he has won three straight fights, the 34-year-old is past his prime. He’ll take on Marcos Maidana in Las Vegas for the interim WBA junior welterweight title, and while he’ll put up a good fight, he should realize that his time is over and he should make room for the young guns like Maidana.

Why Bet On Erik Morales (51-6, 35 KOs)
Morales, also known as “El Terrible” has a wealth of experience that comes from winning titles in three divisions, and he didn’t lose until his 41st professional fight, a span of over nine years. Morales is known for his trilogies with Manny Pacquiao (one win, two losses) and fellow Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera (one win, two losses), and he has been around the block once or twice. Morales retired after four straight losses, including both of his losses to Pacquiao, the current pound for pound king, but returned to the sport first as a welterweight, and now as a junior welterweight, where this bout will be fought. This is a step up for Morales, who fought the majority of his career at super bantamweight and featherweight. It’s tough to maintain the speed you need in the lighter classes, and he has shown that he still has some power, knocking out Willie Limond with body shots back in August 2010.
However, some feel that Morales’ best time is behind him, and they’ll likely right. You won’t see the man who fought Pacquiao in the ring, at least when it comes to speed. Morales is still good technically, but it remains to be seen how he matches up against premium competition, which Maidana will provide. He’s not going to go down easily, but Morales may have to face the fact that time eventually gets us all.
Why Bet On Marcos Maidana (29-2, 27 KOs)
The Argentinean known as “El Chino” is one of the top 140-poiund boxers on the planet, and you can probably put only Timothy Bradley and Amir Khan ahead of him. Maidana lost to Khan in December in a tilt that was nominated as “Fight of the Year” by many boxing writers, but he should receive another shot at Khan after pushing the WBA junior welterweight champion to the limit. Maidana is an aggressive fighter who throws caution to the wind, which makes for an exciting fight, and he will not stop until the fight is over. Maidana was getting pummeled by Khan in the first half of their bout, but came back with a flurry in the second half of the fight to make the decision closer than many thought it would be. He willingly took this fight after Juan Manuel Marquez turned down the chance to fight Morales, and Maidana will be extremely motivated after the loss to Khan.
Maidana’s style will always leave him open for a boxing betting upset as he is very offensive minded, which we said will make an exciting fight for the fans, but it can leave him open to big shots. The major worry for the Maidana camp is that they could overlook Morales, as they are already planning a fight with the winner of a Bradley/Khan fight that is slated for July, providing both of those fighters get past their next opponents. If Maidana isn’t careful, Morales could make him pay.
Boxing Betting Outlook And Prediction
Maidana is a massive -625 favorite in this matchup, while Morales comes in as a +425 underdog, and this should be an exciting fight with plenty of power shots, but both can also take a punch so it could go the distance. Morales hasn’t fought a boxer of Maidana’s caliber since coming out of retirement, and a win would put him in the mix at 140 pounds. But we think he’ll find out that his time is passed, and Maidana will be a man on a mission after losing to Khan. Morales may even score a knockdown, but that won’t stop Maidana, who is seven years his junior, from pressing, and we think he’ll eventually come away with the sports betting victory in this boxing contest.
