Saskatchewan (3-0) is the last undefeated team remaining in the Canadian Football League. The Roughriders almost shocked the online sports betting community by losing to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, but they prevailed with a tight 33-28 victory. The Riders had a difficult time slowing running back Jesse Lumsden, who rushed for over 130 yards and a pair of scores. That's not a huge cause for concern, though, as Lumsden dominates in every game he's healthy.
Despite giving up 28 points to the Ti-Cats, Saskatchewan is tied for fewest points allowed through three games. The defense will likely rebound from a lacklustre effort last week. Even if it doesn't, the offense will bring a lot of juice. The Riders are averaging 31 points per game thanks to a balanced attack. Marcus Crandell missed the Hamilton game with a hamstring injury, but Darian Durant was more than effective at quarterback, throwing for 357 yards in his first start. It shouldn't matter who they line up behind center.
Montreal (2-1) leads the CFL East standings. The Alouettes were knocked off 23-19 by the Calgary Stampeders last week despite a huge effort from quarterback Anthony Calvillo. A perennial favorite for Most Outstanding Player honors, he threw for 341 yards and a touchdown. It didn't materialize into many points, however. Odds are Calvillo doesn't toss for that much yardage again without getting into the end zone more often.
The Alouettes' defense struggled to contain Calgary quarterback Henry Burris on the ground. Burris rushed for 93 yards on 10 carries. It shouldn't be a concern against the Riders no matter who starts, as Crandell has the hamstring injury and Durant took off just three times in his start. Montreal has been just as solid on “D” as Saskatchewan and is tied for first in fewest points allowed.
