THE PICK: Auburn
There’s a giant matchup brewing in the SEC on Saturday night, as the No.6 LSU Tigers travel to Jordan-Hare Stadium to face the No.10 Auburn Tigers in what should be a huge night on the football field. betonline.com’s Sportsbook has college football futures arguing both of these teams will be in the hunt for the BCS championship.
LSU (2-0) scored the final 31 points of the game in last week’s 41-3 rout of North Texas, powered by a monster game from junior running back Charles Scott. Scott racked up 102 yards on only seven carries, including touchdown runs of 39 and 43 yards, and he showed the big-play juice many thought he lacked after putting up only 601 yards in his first two seasons at LSU.
As usual, LSU’s defense was top-notch, allowing only 44 yards on the ground and 199 in total. However, the Tigers failed to live up to the expectations in terms of college football lines, failing to cover the massive 44.5 spread.
Auburn (3-0) won its ugliest game in recent memory by edging Mississippi State 3-2 on the road but, while the offense was ugly at best, the defense was superb. Auburn gave up only 116 yards, including 38 on the ground, and held the Bulldogs without a first down in 14 attempts.
No matter whom your opponent is that is an impressive statistic, especially on the road. There’s no question that kind of effort greatly impacts LSU vs. Auburn odds. Offensively, it wasn’t so great. Ben Tate ran for 92 yards on 20 carries but the Tigers fumbled the ball three times—something that could haunt them against better teams. Like LSU, Auburn couldn’t cover the spread, coming in as 10-point favorites.
BLAKE'S PICK: College football betting sharps know LSU vs. Auburn looks like another low-scoring affair, along the lines of 2006’s 7-3 win for Auburn at home. Both teams came into this season with quarterback troubles and nothing over the first few games of the season has changed that.
LSU hasn’t scored more than nine points in its last three trips to Auburn, and has lost four of its last six trips to Jordan-Hare Stadium. Figuring out LSU Auburn lines could give you a headache since these teams have split their last 10 games but, if it’s any easier, the home team has won eight straight.
Based on that logic, Bet on Auburn to make it nine straight.
