Many offshore sportsbooks and online sports betting players figured Dallas would step up and assume the role of Super Bowl favorite this season, but a fourth-quarter collapse last week on the road has put its postseason hopes in jeopardy. The Cowboys will have their hands full on Sunday night, as they host a New York team aiming to take another step towards home-field advantage in the NFC. Giants vs Cowboys betting odds give Dallas a three-point edge in this NFC East affair.
The Giants’ offense finally hit a wall after a seven-game winning streak, gaining only 211 yards in a 20-14 loss to Philadelphia at home. During that streak the Giants put up 30.1 points, but they fell well short of that mark against a tough Philadelphia defense.
Eli Manning was 13-of-27 for 123 yards and a touchdown, and he’ll have to continue on without the suspended Plaxico Burress, whose legal troubles undoubtedly caused some distractions for the team. Linebacker Antonio Pierce was a part of that Burress mess, and he was also a part of a defense that allowed 144 yards on the ground, 54 yards over their season average.
The Cowboys imploded during last week’s 20-13 loss in Pittsburgh, as they had a 13-3 lead heading into the final stanza and a 13-6 lead with just over seven minutes left. The Dallas offense, led by Tony Romo’s three picks, was the major culprit with five turnovers in the game, and Romo’s last pick was returned for the game-winning score with 1:40 left.
Tashard Choice was great in his first NFL start, replacing the injured Marion Barber, gaining 88 yards on the ground. But Romo and the passing game looked out of sorts all day against the best defense in the league. It’s hard to tell if he’s hurting or helping the Giants vs Cowboys spread this week.
The Giants vs Cowboys line favors Dallas by three, though New York has won six of its last 10 against the Cowboys, including a 35-14 thumping at home in Week 9. The Giants have wrapped up the NFC East, but they’ll be hungry for home-field advantage (something they didn’t have during last year’s Super Bowl run), and they’ll also be looking to rebound from the loss to Philly.
The Cowboys have to come out attacking, as another loss would do catastrophic damage to their playoff hopes. Both teams have important players banged up on both sides of the ball (DeMarcus Ware for Dallas, Brandon Jacobs for New York), so it will be a matter of who wants it more.
STAN’S PICK: The Cowboys will be playing for their lives, so expect Romo to have a big game and bet on Dallas to stay pointed towards the postseason with a victory.
