NCAAF Betting – Georgia Bulldogs a good bet
2008 NCAA Football betting:
- Can the Georgia Bulldogs match the hype?
- Will Knowshon Moreno have a sophomore slump?
- Will a tough schedule and conference upend BCS expectations?
The online betting community has been raving about Georgia. The Bulldogs are the bettor's sexy pick this offseason and will undoubtedly be in the preseason top-5. Along with Florida, they are the sports book odds-on favorite to win the SEC.
All the excitement surrounding the Bulldogs has to do with a stellar backfield returning to an 11-2 squad. Quarterback Matthew Stafford is developing into an excellent college quarterback and a potential NFL star while running back Knowshon Moreno is coming off a phenomenal rookie campaign.
Stafford threw for 2523 yards and 19 touchdowns to lead an offense that averaged 32.6 points per game. With a year of growth, Stafford and Moreno could be All-Americans.
The receivers on this team have plenty of star potential with last year's leader, Mohamed Massaquoi, returning to the fold. He'll be joined by freshmen Taverres King and A.J. Green. The only real question on offense is the line, which is inexperienced.
Sports bettors will remember the Georgia defense stifling Hawaii?and many other opponents?throughout the season, and that unit might be even stronger this year.
The linebacking corps is as deep as ever as the Bulldogs return Dannell Ellerbe and Rennie Curran, two of the best in the conference. Outside of losing end Marcus Howard, who led the team with 10.5 sacks, there aren't many question marks about this defense.
The unit has plenty of experience, evidenced by the fact that freshmen won't really make a big impact on the starting lineup. The defense finished 14th in the nation last year and allowed only 43 points in its final three contests, so the Bulldogs should carry the momentum over into this year.
After stomping Hawaii 41-10 in the Sugar Bowl, the Bulldogs are pegged as a BCS Championship contender. The over/under for their regular season win total is set at nine wins, but they have a very difficult schedule to overcome to get back to double-digit wins.
They must travel to South Carolina and Arizona State back-to-back early in the season, then face another stiff back-to-back test with a trip to LSU and Florida at a neutral site. Georgia also visits Auburn, which is never an easy place to play.
With so many tough games, the Bulldogs will have a tough time making the BCS Championship game.

Stan Simmons first tasted football through the college game, but his football handicapping has strictly focused on the professional sport. Not many people devote as much time to the NFL as Simmons. For six days a week he works, labors and handicaps the sport, and on the seventh he rests as the games play out. Thoughts or questions?
