Auburn Kentucky Betting – Tigers Look To Stay Unbeaten Near Midway Point Of The Season
The Auburn Tigers will try to keep their perfect record intact as they go on the road in the SEC.
NCAA football betting: Auburn Tigers @ Kentucky Wildcats
Online Betting Odds: Auburn -6.5
Why To Bet On Auburn
The Tigers, not only know how to win, but their star player is learning how to throw the ball down the field. Cameron Newton – a quarterback who is dominating games for Auburn with his rushing ability – hit a number of big-play passes last week in an easy romp over Louisiana-Monroe, especially a 94-yard touchdown strike to receiver Emory Blake. Newton – who is the leading rusher on the Auburn roster and averages a sterling 6.2 yards per carry – didn’t run the ball very much against Monroe, but he did hit 14-of-19 passes for 245 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. Newton’s evolution as a passer is what Auburn so dearly needs as this season progresses. If Newton can throw the ball downfield with any reasonable degree of consistency, defenses will have to stay off the line of scrimmage, which will only open up more running lanes for Newton on improvised scrambles. Newton’s combination of size and speed is a rarity in college football. He didn’t run much last week, so Newton will also be relatively fresh for this clash against Kentucky, a team that has looked very frail in its own journey through Southeastern Conference action this season.
Speaking of Kentucky, the Wildcats are coming off a pair of discouraging losses to Florida Gators and Ole Miss. True, the Wildcats get this game at home, but first-year coach Joker Phillips isn’t finding many answers for his ballclub. Auburn is thriving in 2010, but the other piece of this pigskin puzzle is that Kentucky Wildcats are swimming in self-doubt and inconsistency. It might be reasonable to doubt Auburn on the road, but then again, Kentucky does not appear to be the kind of team that can take advantage of the Tigers’ limitations.
Why To Bet On Kentucky
Despite all the good things Auburn has done this year, the Tigers still have a ways to go before they prove themselves as an elite team in college football. The Clemson team Auburn barely beat a few weeks ago at home just lost a terrible game to the Miami Hurricanes on Oct. 2. The South Carolina Gamecocks team Auburn beat on Sept. 25 has not yet proven itself to be an elite team in the SEC betting. Auburn’s perfect record is therefore diminished by the fact that its opponents are not the best of the best in college football. When Auburn goes on the road for the first time since Sept. 9, the Tigers will no longer be in the comfort zone provided by their home ballpark, Jordan-Hare Stadium. If Kentucky can erase the many turnovers and other miscues that plagued the Cats in their Oct. 2 loss at Ole Miss, the home team could upset Auburn and shake up the SEC.
How The Game Will Play Out
uburn won’t flourish, but Kentucky is too erratic a team to be trusted in this game. Kentucky trailed 42-20 at Ole Miss before scoring two garbage touchdowns to make the score respectable. The Wildcats have clearly fallen from the standard set by former coach Rich Brooks. This just isn’t a situation in which an upset looks like a likely occurrence. Auburn will shake off two and a half mediocre quarters and dominate in the fourth to cover the number.
