Auburn vs Tennessee odds maker breakdown: What’s On The Line
Sportsbook odds makers have yet to take notice the turnaround that Chizik is leading at Auburn. The Tigers are 4-0 and have averaged 45 points per game. That’s impressive considering how challenged this team was offensively just last year. Most people derided the hiring of Chizik, but if he keeps this up, he could be among the Coach of the Year candidates – especially considering the Tigers had only five wins last year. Meanwhile at Rocky Top, Kiffin has revitalized the program, but it’s fairly clear that they don’t have the parts to really compete in the SEC. Kiffin is putting up with quarterback Jonathan Crompton right now because he doesn’t have any other options, but Crompton is really hampering this team. The Vols barely avoided an ugly loss to Ohio last week but they might not have the same luck this week. Betting Edge: Auburn
Auburn vs Tennessee odds maker breakdown: Offense
The Tigers offense is rolling right now and quarterback Chris Todd is going to be confident coming off of his career-best performance last week. Todd finished 19-of-26 for 287 yards and five touchdowns, albeit against Ball State. The Tigers have scored more than 40 points in three consecutive games, which is a first for the school. They’ll have a tough time topping that number this week because Tennessee’s defense is good, but the Tigers will have the better offense on the field. The Vols offense is pitiful right now. Crompton is one of the worst quarterbacks in all of college football and it’s really hampering this unit. There are no downfield passes thrown and any big plays have to come from the running game. Montario Hardesty is playing well and Bryce Brown is a highly-touted running back, but the Vols are really handcuffed by Crompton’s horrible quarterbacking. Betting Edge: Auburn
Auburn vs Tennessee odds maker breakdown: Defense
The Tigers defense hasn’t played as well as the offense but they have made the big plays when necessary. The Tigers have 12 takeaways through four games, which ranks them fifth in the nation. The defense is still a work in progress as many of their key contributors are young players. Expect a few mistakes along the way. Monte Kiffin’s defense has held up well so far this season but there are some cracks in the armor. The Vols gave up 23 points to Ohio last week, which is a very ominous sign. There are a lot of injuries for the Vols on defense right now, including linebacker Nick Reveiz, who is out for the year. He was the player that got the entire defense lined up properly. By the end of the game last week, the Vols defense was without five starters. Betting Edge: Tennessee
Auburn vs Tennessee odds maker breakdown: Notable Injuries
The Vols are really beaten up for this contest, particularly the defense. Linebacker Nick Reveiz figures to be the biggest loss as he gets the defense aligned. End Chris Walker (back) and linebacker Herman Lathers (concussion) also left before game's end last week, while linebacker LaMarcus Thompson (back) and end Wes Brown (knee) never played. Auburn vs Tennessee State betting breakdown: Outlook and Pick
NCAA football betting fans know the brand names at Tennessee, but Auburn is going to make a statement this week. They don’t have to do anything above and beyond the call of duty as Auburn is the better team here. In normal circumstances, it would be a matchup of Auburn’s smoking offense against Tennessee’s quality defense, but the Vols defense has too many injuries to hold its ground. As long as Auburn avoids turnovers, they are going to get the win here and get themselves into the AP Top 25. BLAKE’S PICK: Auburn +1.5
