Bet Georgia Bulldogs – When Will They Contend Again?
2009 Georgia Bulldogs Betting Recap
Online betting students are beginning to wonder if the Georgia football program and its head coach mark Richt are simply running out of momentum. After winning the SEC twice in his first five years, Richt’s Georgia teams have sputtered and never quite seemed to play up to the level of those first championship squaads despite being loaded with NFL-caliber talent like quarterback Matthew Stafford and running back Knowshon Moreno.
In 2009, the Bulldogs struggled to get both offense and defense to show up for the same game. The offense was absent in an opening 24-10 loss at No. 9 Oklahoma State. The offense came to life to spark back to back wins over South Carolina (41-37) and at Arkansas (52-41) and both phases played well in a workmanlike 20-17 win over Arizona State.
The Bulldogs battled football bi-polarity for the remainder of 2009. They first suffered back-to- back losses to LSU (20-13) and at Tennessee (45-19). The Bulldogs were held to 274 and 241 yards of offense in those setbacks. They regrouped to beat Vanderbilt on the road before getting pummeled in Jacksonville by Florida, 41-17. They once again composed themselves for a gritty 31-24 win over Auburn despite being outgained, but followed the quality win with an inexplicable loss to Kentucky despite outgaining the Wildcats, 487-260. At a disappointing 6-5, the Bulldogs picked themselves off the mat one last time and defeated rival (and eventual ACC champion) Georgia Tech, 30-24. They closed the year at 8-5 by beating Texas A&M in the Independence Bowl.
2010 Preview To Bet Georgia Bulldogs
NCAA football betting will find the 2010 Bulldogs something of a mystery. Under pressure, Richt fired the entire defensive staff and hired Todd Grantham from the Dallas Cowboys to be the new defensive coordinator. Grantham will install a 3-4 defense. This could be a boon to the Bulldogs as they return just one experienced defensive lineman but three linebackers with starting experience.
The offense returns 10 starters, but it’s an offense that struggled to consistently score in 2009 and is painfully green at the most vital position: quarterback. The Bulldogs will rely on redshirt freshman Aaron Murray to lead the show. He’ll be backed up by true freshman Hutson Mason while former quarterback Logan Gray will move to wide receiver. Murray will have plenty of talented and experienced playmakers to rely on. Running back Wayshon Ealy, tight end Orson Charles, elite wide receiver A. J. Green, and the entire offensive line are all back. If Murray lives up to his high school hype, the Bulldogs will score big in 2010. They may have to in order to give their defense some support in the transition.
The schedule will be a challenge for sports betting analysts. The good news: no games with Alabama and LSU. The bad news: road games at South Carolina, an improved Mississippi State, and Auburn in addition to the annual neutral field game in Jacksonville against Florida. The Bulldogs play 11 straight games before getting a bye week preceding their rivalry showdown, when Georgia Tech comes to Athens to end the season. Clearly, this team’s depth will be tested.
