Bet Iowa State Cyclones – Can Cyclones Offense Carry Them In Big 12 North?

2009 Iowa State Cyclones Betting Recap
The Iowa State Cyclones kind of got jobbed when Gene Chizik ditched them for the Auburn program just one year after taking the job but in the long run, it might be for the best. Paul Rhodes took over Iowa State and made them competitive far sooner than anyone expected.
The tandem of Austen Arnaud at quarterback and running back Alexander Robinson wreaked havoc on a number of opponents as online betting fans saw the Iowa State offense perform better than expected. Robinson proved to be one of the best running backs in the Big 12 – if not the nation. Meanwhile, Arnaud orchestrated the spread offense very well and improved as the season continued.
The defense was leaky, but who’s isn’t in the Big 12?
Led by the offense and Rhodes, the Cyclones won seven games including their first bowl game in five years, which is a big accomplishment in Ames.
2010 Preview To Bet Iowa State Cyclones
As usual, when a coach turns around a program in the first year, there are some real questions for year two and whether there will be some challenges.
For the most part, Iowa State looks every bit as good as 2009 and the offense could even be better with Arnaud and Robinson returning. NCAA football betting fans saw Arnaud have a huge spring session and coach Rhodes called him the offseason MVP. If that’s the case, the Cyclones will be tough to handle on offense.
But the issues are on defense, where the Cyclones were weak to begin with and have to replace seven starters. Overall, replacing seven starters from a mediocre defense may not be so bad as they didn’t lose anyone stellar. Even so, seven starters is a lot to replace from a consistency standpoint and that could hurt the Cyclones.
While the offense alone could possibly carry them to another bowl game, the schedule will be challenging.
Oklahoma and Texas are on the docket and while both teams are rebuilding somewhat, back-to-back road trips to Norman and Austin are going to probably result in two losses. In non-conference play, the Cyclones also have to face Utah and Iowa. Other than that, the Cyclones could – or should – get wins against Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, Texas Tech and Kansas, so if they can steal two more somewhere, they could be bowl-bound once again.
