Bet Oregon State Beavers – Beavers Make Up For 2009 Disappointment With Title
2009 Oregon State Beavers Betting Recap
Online betting players had no idea what to do with Oregon State in 2009 as they were all over the place, and you didn’t know what you were going to get each week. The Beavers began with wins over Portland State and at UNLV, but they fell at home 28-18 to then-No.17 Cincinnati, followed by a five-point home loss to Arizona. Then the Beavers with wins at Arizona State and at home against Stanford, before dropping a 42-36 thriller at then-No.7 USC. That performance sparked a four-game winning streak as they rolled over UCLA, at then-No.20 California, Washington and at Washington State, winning by an average of 20.8 points. However, the Beavers fell in their biggest test of the season, losing 37-33 at then-No.7 Oregon in the latest edition of the “Civil War”, and it was the first time these two had ever met with a Rose Bowl berth on the line. The Beavers then lost 44-20 to then-No.14 BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl, ending a five-bowl winning streak.
Sean Canfield led the Beavers to No.27 in the national passing rankings, but he was aided by Jacquizz Rodgers, who was a first-team Pac-10 running back. Rodgers was 11th in the country in rushing, and while he’s small, he’s a monster in open space. Older brother James was a 1,000-yard receiver for the Beavers, although they ran some end-arounds for him as well. Essentially, the key to the Oregon State offense was getting the ball to the Rodgers brothers. The defense finished the season 46th in the country, but they were slaughtered over their last two games, and USC exposed them as well. Against the pass, the Beavers were 84th, and that’s something they’ll have to sort out if 2010 players are going to bet on Oregon State.
2010 Preview To Bet Oregon State Beavers
The Beavers’ first mission of the offseason is to replace the departed Canfield, and odds are Ryan Katz is going to be the man. Katz saw spot duties last season and knows the offense, but any NCAA football betting player will tell you that there’s a big difference between being a backup and being an every-week starter. But the Beavers still have the Rodgers brothers, and that’s a huge part of their system. Jacquizz could be an All-American candidate, but James may be more important as Katz will be looking to him if he gets in trouble. The offensive line has four starters back, and that’s always a good thing with a young quarterback. There could be as many as 10 starters back on defense for the Beavers, but Keaton Kristick left a big hole in the middle of the defense. But the big question is the secondary, who can’t afford to give up big plays like they were in 2009.
Oregon State didn’t take any shortcuts when it comes to their non-conference schedule. The Beavers will head to Dallas to face TCU in a neutral-site game to open the season, although the crowd will be distinctively on TCU’s side, given their proximity to Cowboys Stadium. The Beavers will then host Louisville before heading to the blue turf of Boise State, and Oregon State can ask their rivals from Oregon what to expect against the Broncos. The Beavers will host Arizona State before back-to-back road games at Arizona and Washington, and then they’ll return home to face Cal before heading to UCLA. The Beavers actually have an advantage down the stretch as they’ll have Washington State and USC at home, before heading to Stanford, and they’ll also host this year’s edition of the “Civil War” against Oregon as they’ll aim to avenge last year’s heartbreaking loss.
If you wanted a safe bet to win the Pac-10, the Beavers may be your best choice. Even with the exit of Canfield, Katz still has the Rodgers brothers, and he’s behind an experienced offensive line that should keep him on his feet. The Beavers also have a lot of experience on defense, but they need to develop a pass rush after finishing 105th in sacks in 2009. Still, with the knocks that USC and Oregon took in the offseason, the stage is set for Oregon State to step in and take the spotlight for their first Pac-10 title since they split it with Oregon and Washington in 2000. Don’t be afraid to bet on the Oregon State Beavers as your sports betting pick in the Pac-10 this year.
