Bet Utah Utes – A Green Defense Will Leave Utes Blue In MWC Swan Song
2009 Utah Utes Betting Recap
Utah’s online betting odds were very good heading into the 2009 season, coming off their first Mountain West championship in four years. The Utes began the season at No.19, and with wins over Utah State and at San Jose State, Utah was off and running, until they got to Oregon, where they were dropped 31-14 by the Ducks. But the Utes didn’t put their heads down, instead, they rattled off six wins in a row, starting with a 30-14 victory at home over Louisville, followed by wins at Colorado State and UNLV. Finally, the Utes had three straight games at home, and they took advantage of it with victories over Air Force, Wyoming and New Mexico. Then came the showdown at then-No.4 TCU, and the Utes were walloped 55-28 by the Horned Frogs in a battle of “BCS Busters”. The Utes recovered to pound San Diego State 38-7 at home, but that was forgotten with a 26-23 overtime loss at then-No.19 BYU in another stirring edition of the “Holy War”, one of the most underrated rivalries in the nation. However, the Utes took a nice consolation prize at the end of the year, extending their bowl-winning streak to nine with a 37-27 win over California in the Poinsettia Bowl.
The Utes were 19th in the country defensively, and they were especially good against the pass, coming in 16th, and it truly was a team effort with four players with 70 tackles or more. Offensively, the Utes were 54th in the country, and they were balanced, but they bounced between quarterbacks Terrance Cain, a junior, and freshman Jordan Wynn. Cain offered more of a running threat, while Wynn was the passing quarterback, and the dual system worked for the most part. Eddie Wide rushed for over 1,000 yards, while David Reed caught over 1,100 yards in passes during the 2009 campaign. Balance was definitely the No.1 reason to bet on the Utes last year.
2010 Preview To Bet Utah Utes
NCAA football betting players who want to bet on the Utes this season may be counting on their offense as the defense returns just four starters. Up front won’t be a problem as three of those starters will be on the line, but the linebackers are inexperienced, and the secondary needs a couple of players to step up as well. Wide returns to give the Utes a solid runner out of the backfield, and Utah is deep at running back, but they may put it up more with Wynn at the helm. Wynn threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns in the bowl win over Cal, so he may have the edge when it comes to the starting job over Cain. Reed is gone, so Wynn will have to find new targets among a green receiving unit.
The Utes will be heading to the Pac-10 next year, but it’s the Big East they’ll welcome to town in their home opener as Pittsburgh will try to end the third-longest home-winning streak in the country at 17 games. UNLV comes to town the next week before the Utes head out to New Mexico, then they’re back home for San Jose State. Back-to-back road games await the Utes at Iowa State and Wyoming, followed by a home game against Colorado State and a Halloween trip to Air Force. The stretch run starts with a showdown visit from TCU, and the Utes would love revenge for the beating they took in Fort Worth last season. It doesn’t get any easier, either as the Utes will head to Notre Dame for another massive game, and then they travel to San Diego State. Finally, the regular season wraps up at home with BYU in the “Holy War”, and this will be the last time these two clash in this rivalry as conference foes.
Betting on the Utes to win the Mountain West in their swan song will be tough as TCU is back, and BYU won’t make it easy, either. The Utes also have a couple of tough non-conference games against Pitt and Notre Dame that will show people what they’re made of. The Utes are generally strong defensively, but they lost a lot at the back end, and that’s going to hurt them at a few points during the season. In conference play, betting on the Utes is a safe wager most of the time, but don’t take their sports betting odds to win the Mountain West.
