California vs Oregon odds maker breakdown: What’s On The Line
The teams in front of Cal (3-0, 0-0 Pac 10) continue to drop like flies. Sportsbook odds makers saw USC and BYU lose, which combined with Cal’s win over Minnesota, puts them at No. 6 in the AP poll. They can smell the BCS now and they can’t afford any USC-like slip-ups if they are serious about it. Oregon (2-1, 0-0 Pac 10) upset Utah last week and after losing ugly on the opening Thursday of the season to Boise State, they can now fully recover with a second consecutive win over a Top 25 team. Last week, they ended the nation’s longest winning streak when they upended Utah. Betting Edge: California
California vs Oregon odds maker breakdown: Offense
Cal’s offense is on a roll right now. They’ve averaged 49 points per game through their first three contests. Running back Jahvid Best is emerging as a Heisman candidate after notching his seventh straight 100-yard rushing effort. Through three games, he has 412 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. More importantly, quarterback Kevin Riley is playing very well for the Bears, which is the real key to the offense and keeping pressure off of Best. Oregon’s offense is still a work in progress. Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli hasn’t found his stroke from last year, and although LaMichael James has stepped up at running back, the team still hasn’t found consistency there either with LeGarrette Blount suspended for the year. Oregon got some mojo going last week against Utah and they’ll have to keep it rolling against a very good Cal defense. Betting Edge: California
California vs Oregon odds maker breakdown: Defense
The Cal defense is the better unit among these two. Although they let a mediocre Minnesota team hang around a little more than they would have liked, when they are on, they have the best – or second-best – defense in the conference. Oregon is still a work in progress on defense and that has been evident throughout the season. The benefit they’ll have in this game is that they are at home. Their unit overachieves when they are at Autzen Stadium, while Cal’s unit struggles on the road. Betting Edge: Even
California vs Oregon odds maker breakdown: Notable Injuries
Cal wideout Nyan Boateng suffered a broken leg against Minnesota and will likely miss this game. For Oregon, free safety T.J. Ward is questionable. Betting Edge: Oregon
California vs Oregon State betting breakdown: Outlook and Pick
NCAA football betting fans know that the Bears have been vulnerable on the road over the past few years, just as they were last week against Minnesota. But in the end, they still have the better weapons on offense and the better defense, which should lead them to a victory by a small margin. TONY’S PICK: Ducks +7
