Florida LSU Betting: Florida, Without Its Top Quarterback, Visits LSU
The Florida Gators were going to have a hard-enough time dealing with the LSU Tigers to begin with, but now they’ll have to face the Bayou Bengals without their number one quarterback.
Florida Gators @ LSU Tigers - Saturday, October 8
Sports betting line: LSU (-13 ½)
Why Florida Will Win
The community of MLB baseball betting experts has been following the Yankees-Tigers American League Division Series, a contest that’s been disrupted by weather. The New York-Detroit matchup has taken on a different trajectory because the two aces in that confrontation, C.C. Sabathia and Justin Verlander, have been limited to one start as a result of a Game 1 rainout. Other, less proven pitchers are being asked to fill the void for both teams. In Detroit’s case, though, the less-proven pitchers are getting the job done. Max Scherzer stepped onto the mound in Game 2 and shut out the Yankees through six innings, paving the way for a Detroit win.
This is exactly what the Florida Gators can look to as a source of hope when they play the LSU Tigers this weekend at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. John Brantley, the “staff ace” for Florida, is out, but Jeff Driskel, the backup, owns some tools. Driskel stands tall in the pocket and possesses a rifle arm. Moreover, LSU won’t be able to break down too much game film on the freshman, who played the second half of last week’s game against Alabama and also saw some minutes in Florida’s previous game against Kentucky. Much as hitters in baseball can sometimes fail against young pitchers they haven’t seen, a new quarterback in football can give defenses a different look and feel, thereby changing the equation in favor of the offense. This is Florida’s path to victory on Saturday.
Why LSU Will Win
It’s hard to make a sports bet on this game, since Vegas has pulled the line due to John Brantley’s injury for Florida. However, if a line ever does get posted, it would be hard to bet against the Bayou Bengals, the No. 1 team in college football this season. LSU owns such a copious quantity of quality athletes on both sides of the ball. The Tigers can rotate in fresh bodies and not lose much in terms of overall talent. Tyrann Mathieu is a defensive terror for LSU in the back seven, and along the defensive front, the Tigers have the best athletes in the SEC, probably a shade better than Alabama’s studs. What also makes LSU hard to beat is the fact that quarterback Jarrett Lee simply isn’t turning the ball over. A mistake-plagued signal caller in previous seasons, Lee has cleaned up his act and is executing exactly as coach Les Miles hoped he would. As long as the Tigers don’t commit major gaffes, they will continue to win and win convincingly.
Who Will Win
It’s not complicated: LSU won’t make enough mistakes to give Florida a real shot at winning. LSU has to commit at least three turnovers, maybe five, in order for the Gators to win with their freshman quarterback under center.
