Miami vs Florida State Odds – ‘Noles kick season off with victory over rival ‘Canes
The first week of NCAA football odds begins with an explosive meeting between Florida State and Miami, two of the dominant teams of the late 1990s that have since fallen off. Miami has fared well in its recent history at Florida State, but a young offense will doom it against a reloading Seminole defense.

- PICK: Florida State
Miami vs Florida State odds maker breakdown: Offense Miami returns eight starters but the quarterback depth was hurt by a couple of transfers. Jacory Harris will start with most of his offensive line and weapons back, but the Hurricanes’ skill players are very young, which could hurt them as they look to improve on their 89th-place ranking from 2008. The entire offensive line is back for FSU, meaning Christian Ponder will be well-protected. The top running back and top receivers from last year are gone, but there is plenty of depth. The Seminoles were 51st in offense in 2008 and, if Ponder can stop throwing into coverage, they’ll put up the points. Betting Edge: Florida State
Miami vs Florida State odds maker breakdown: Defense Defense could be the Hurricanes’ online sports betting savior this year as eight starters are back, although coordinator Bill Young left for Oklahoma State. Miami lured John Lovett from Clemson, which finished 18th in total defense last year. The Seminoles have only five starters back, and the loss of pass-rush specialist Everette Brown and All-American safety Myron Rolle hurts a lot. A slight edge goes to the Hurricanes because of their experience. Betting Edge: Miami
Miami vs Florida State odds maker breakdown: What’s On The Line Miami has a brutal beginning to the season and a win would boost the confidence of a young team that sorely needs it. The Seminoles haven’t been in the preseason rankings since 2006; a big win over a rival in a nationally-televised game would give some offshore sportsbook players more faith in them, especially ahead of a tricky trip to BYU on September 19th. Betting Edge: Florida State
Miami vs Florida State odds maker breakdown: Notable Injuries For the Hurricanes, starting running back Craig Cooper and defensive end Adewale Ojomo could miss this game, while FSU is relatively healthy heading into the season. Betting Edge: Florida State
Miami vs Florida State betting breakdown: Outlook and Pick The Hurricanes have won seven of their last 10 against the Seminoles, but Florida State took last year’s meeting 41-39 at Miami--and I don’t think the Hurricanes’ offense can put up 39 again. Their quarterback is a sophomore and their receivers are all very green. The Seminoles lost a lot on defense, but this year’s starters have experience and are used to the system. It won’t be a shootout like last year, but the FSU offense will have enough to score on a Miami defense in transition. BLAKE’S PICK: Florida State
