These sides represent the oldest officer commissioning sources, an American tradition for the past 80 years. The Midshipmen hold a slight edge in the rivalry, with 54 wins compared to the 49 that Army has secured, including the last eight in a row. Whether or not they can continue that streak against an improved Black Knights team this week, only time will tell.
NCAA Football Betting Preview: Navy
The Midshipmen head in to this game as winners of three in a row, including last weekend’s NCAAF betting win over Arkansas State, which brought the independent school to 8-3 on the year. Navy will be looking to get back on track in an armed forces match up after falling to Air Force earlier in the season, and will be relying heavily on senior quarterback Ricky Dobbs to do so. Dobbs have thrown for 1,194 yard and 10 touchdowns, and rushing for 806 more, including 13 scores. The Midshipmen rank fifth in the country with an average of 302.5 yards per game, and running back Alexander Teich is one of the biggest reasons why as the perfect complement to Dobbs. Teich has averaged 6.2 yards per carry for a total of 778, and has five touchdowns this season. Navy ranks in the top-45 in points against, and will need a big effort against the Army running attack.
NCAA Football Betting Preview: Army
The Black Knights aren’t far behind in the running category, ranking ninth in the football betting nation with an average of just over 260 rushing yards per game. It’s a similar situation for Navy, with quarterback Trent Steelman and his 130.95 passer rating. The sophomore quarterback has thrown for 837 yards and five touchdowns this season, and has ran for 620 more with 11 touchdowns. The Black Knights have lost two of their last three, including a 27-3 shutdown at the hands of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on November 20, and will need to find a way to open things up offensively to avoid the same fate against a talented Navy team.
The Match Up: Navy @ Army
The Midshipmen have had Army’s number the past few seasons, and it is no secret as to why. The Armed Forces Bowl is about toughness and pounding the rock inside, something that Navy has just done better. This game will come down to execution, and it is the Midshipmen that will get the job done.
