Oklahoma State Texas Betting: Oklahoma State Must Be Vigilant On The Road At Texas
The ranks of college football betting experts are aware of a very fundamental reality in the world of coaching: Do something until the other team proves that it can stop it. This is what the Oklahoma State Cowboys and head coach Mike Gundy – along with offensive coordinator Todd Monken – practiced this past Saturday in a 70-28 romp over the Kansas Jayhawks. Oklahoma State’s bread and butter is the pitch-and-catch passing game made possible by veteran quarterback Brandon Weeden, whose 28th birthday will be celebrated the night before this game against Texas. The onetime baseball prospect has six to eight years on the typical college quarterback, and it’s this veteran experience which is paying such huge dividends for the Pokes this season. Against Kansas, there was no need for OSU to make things any more complicated than necessary. Weeden threw passes, and his teammates regularly caught them. Weeden hit 24 of 28 throws for just under 300 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions… and that was in less than one half of football. Yes, Weeden was pulled before halftime. After all, Oklahoma State had accumulated a 56-7 lead by that point in time. The Cowboys’ offense is humming, and since Texas is very young in the secondary – the Longhorns’ cover corners got toasted by Oklahoma receivers last weekend in Dallas – this matchup definitely tilts in Oklahoma State’s favor. The Cowboys have the weapons on the edges that will make Texas’s back seven squirm. It’s very hard to see how Texas will be able to hold down the Cowboys to a significant extent.
Why Texas Will Win
When you contemplate your sports bet on this game, it’s hard to deny Oklahoma State’s prowess. On the other hand, there’s something to be said for being battle-tested. Texas just got done with a game against Oklahoma which exposed the Longhorns’ weaknesses. Texas coach Mack Brown has a great chance to teach his team a lot of important lessons from film study this week. Texas is also going to be angry following its blowout loss suffered at the hands of OU, its foremost rival in the world of college football. Oklahoma State cruised past Kansas in what amounted to little more than a glorified scrimmage. Texas got its teeth kicked out by Oklahoma, but that will make the Horns far more focused and engaged in the competition against Oklahoma State. It’s hard to rev up the engines after gliding through an easy 42-point win. If Oklahoma State isn’t sharp at the outset, Texas could create a physical, slow-paced game that will give the Longhorns a great chance to win.
Who Will Win
It’s already a challenge for Texas to stop Oklahoma State’s offense, but can Texas score enough when it has the ball? Texas’s offense couldn’t do anything against Oklahoma; the Horns’ quarterback situation is a mess. Even if Oklahoma State scores 28 points – well below the Pokes’ average for the season – how will Texas be able to match that? OSU will comfortably cover the number.
