Ole Miss vs South Carolina odds maker breakdown: What’s On The Line
The Rebels (2-0, 0-0 SEC) open their conference schedule as one of the online sports betting sleepers in the SEC, and the Gamecocks will be their first real test. South Carolina (2-1, 0-1 SEC) gave Georgia all they could handle a couple of weeks ago, but they can’t seem to break through against the “bigger” teams in the conference. However, they won at Ole Miss last year….which gives the Rebels motivation. Betting Edge: Ole Miss
Ole Miss vs South Carolina odds maker breakdown: Offense
Jevan Snead has struggled out of the gate for the Rebels, and he was thought to be a darkhorse candidate for the Heisman Trophy. But it could be a blessing in disguise as Ole Miss is now more balanced, and Brandon Bolden is averaging eight yards per carry. Once Snead hits his stride, and he showed glimpses in Ole Miss’ 52-6 thrashing of Southeastern Louisiana with three touchdowns and no picks, the Rebels will be very hard to stop. The Gamecocks are also equally adept at running and throwing the ball, and after scoring seven points in their first game, they’ve averaged 37.5 in their last two, including their 38-16 romp over Florida Atlantic. Stephen Garcia is a dual threat with his arm and legs, and freshman Jarvis Giles has stepped right into the team at running back. Betting Edge: Ole Miss
Ole Miss vs South Carolina odds maker breakdown: Defense
The Rebels have averaged 10.0 points against in their two games, but again, those came against Memphis and Southeastern Louisiana. They also allowed Southeastern Louisiana to gain 302 yards, which is embarrassing for an SEC team. However, the bright spot is that the Rebels have picked off two passes or more in seven straight games. The Gamecocks have been getting to the quarterback as they are tied for 11th in sacks, but Georgia showed South Carolina still has some work to do in their 41-37 win over the Gamecocks two weeks ago. A major factor in that, though, were special teams. The Gamecocks are awful in kick and punt coverage, which put their defense in a bad spot when it comes to field position. Betting Edge: Draw
Ole Miss vs South Carolina odds maker breakdown: Notable Injuries
Ole Miss is healthy, while South Carolina’s Nathan Pepper, a defensive tackle, missed the Florida Atlantic game with an ankle injury, which hurts the depth of the line. Betting Edge: Ole Miss
Ole Miss vs South Carolina betting breakdown: Outlook and Pick
The Gamecocks broke a four-game losing streak to the Rebels with a 31-24 upset at Ole Miss last year, and this should be a close one as four of the five meetings have been decided by a touchdown or less. Last year’s loss was a letdown game for the Rebels, who were coming off a monster upset win at Florida The Gamecocks aren’t overly good at home, so that advantage will be nullified by an Ole Miss offense that will be out to make a statement, especially Snead.
