Texas Longhorns Odds - Longhorns, Sooners compete for Big 12 again
The Texas Longhorns odds to win the BCS took an unexpected turn last year when they got the short end of the stick in a three-way tiebreak. This year, online betting sharps know that they’ll look to keep their record clean to stay ahead of Oklahoma and get to the BCS Championship game themselves.
Texas Longhorns odds: McCoy, Longhorns aim to succeed where they fell short
- McCoy will be a Heisman finalist again
- Longhorns must stay undefeated to remain ahead of Oklahoma
- 14 starters return from the Fiesta Bowl-winning squad
The Texas Longhorns odds to win the Big 12 are even with Oklahoma, but interestingly enough, they aren’t even expected to win the BCS Championship. So while the sportsbook odds makers think they can win the Big 12, they have less faith in the Longhorns to win the Championship game.
Nonetheless, the Longhorns return 14 starters from a team that easily won the Fiesta Bowl, including quarterback Colt McCoy. McCoy completed 77% of his passes last year, which is a phenomenal rate, and when you consider that four starting offensive linemen return, McCoy – and the Longhorns offense – should have another good year. This is a team that is extremely consistent on the road especially (51-16 in last 10 years) but college football betting handicappers still feel this team is a step behind Oklahoma.
With McCoy back on offense, there won’t be many problems there. The concern is more on defense, where the Longhorns lost end Brian Orakpo, two linebackers and a corner. There are plenty of talented replacements, but they’ll have to play at a high level immediately so the defense doesn’t falter.
The Texas Longhorns odds will come down to a matchup against Oklahoma on November 17th. If Texas loses that game, they’ll be behind the eight-ball in the Big 12, but if they can win the Red River Shootout again, there won’t be too many other hurdles on the schedule. A trip to Oklahoma State will be tough this year but outside of that, the Longhorns should be undefeated the rest of the way. Like last year, the Longhorns odds makers have them BCS-bound but not in the game that they want to be in.
