NCAAF Betting – Who Will Win ACC Conference?
2008 College basketball lines:
While the Pac 10 and Big 10 have clear-cut favorites, the ACC is a conference that fans who love betting on sports are looking to for value. With five teams between +225 and +800 offshore sportsbook odds, there's some good odds across the board depending on who's your pick.
The Clemson Tigers (+225 ACC odds) are the favorite to win the conference as they return 15 starters from their nine-win team. But the Tigers are perennial underachievers and have failed to win the ACC despite boasting plenty of talent over the last few seasons. Clemson faces a tough opening schedule with a game against Alabama followed by road trips to Wake Forest, Boston College and Florida State.
The Virginia Tech Hokies (+250 ACC odds) are second in line according to the odds, but they're rebuilding both their offense and defense. Their quarterback situation is unsettled between Tyrod Taylor and Sean Glennon, and key losses (RB Brandon Ore, LB Xavier Adibi, LB Vince Hall and CB Brandon Flowers) will likely deter some online bettors away from the Hokies.
Wake Forest (+700 ACC odds) offers some pretty good value for bettors. They've been in competition for the ACC title the last two years (winning it once) and return 14 starters. The Demon Deacons have a light schedule as they get Florida State early (who is dealing with a ton of suspensions) and their toughest games, against Clemson and Boston College, are at home.
Boston College (+2000 ACC odds) lost to the Virginia Tech in the ACC title game last year and isn't getting much respect. Even though they might have one of the best defenses in the country, it might not be enough to overcome the losses of Matt Ryan and Gosder Cherilus.
With Miami rebuilding and Florida State seemingly in no-mans land, the conference is its weakest in years. The Hurricanes might be back in the mix in 2009, but right now they aren't much more than a cute team laden with prospects.
One other potential sleeper for college football bettors is North Carolina. Butch Davis has helped the Tar Heels become a respectable team in the ACC after being a laughing stock for so many years. Eighteen starters return to a unit that won only four games, but lost six of eight by a touchdown or less. With Virginia Tech rebuilding, don't be surprised if North Carolina makes a run in the Coastal Division. They get all their toughest contests at home.
Here are the odds to win the ACC:
Clemson +225
Virginia Tech +250
Miami +350
Florida State +400
Wake Forest +700
North Carolina +800
Georgia Tech +1000
Maryland +1200
Boston College +2000
Virginia +5000
North Carolina State +5000
Duke +7500

Stan Simmons first tasted football through the college game, but his football handicapping has strictly focused on the professional sport. Not many people devote as much time to the NFL as Simmons. For six days a week he works, labors and handicaps the sport, and on the seventh he rests as the games play out. Thoughts or questions?
