NCAAF Betting – Vandy Among Worst In SEC
Online sports betting - Vanderbilt
- How will Vanderbilt respond after falling short of a bowl game in 2007?
- Can Chris Nickson be a reliable quarterback?
- Is Vanderbilt the worst team in the SEC?
Anyone who follows NCAA football betting knows that in some years, the SEC could probably be a division in the NFL. While there are plenty of stellar teams in the SEC, one team who drags that level of talent down is Vanderbilt.
The Commodores might be in the SEC but field one of the worst rosters in all of college football.
Head coach Bobby Johnson decided to stick around for a little while longer instead of taking the post at Duke but the Commodores have replace the team's all-time leading receiver, Earl Bennett, all five starters along the offensive line and stud linebacker Jonathan Goff.
The offense looks like a complete mess in Nashville. Chris Nickson looked like a potential starter in 2006 but flopped last year mostly due to a shoulder injury. The starting role is wide open without any good looking options.
Compounding the problems will be an offensive line that will be looking for five new starters, including a replacement for first-round pick, tackle Chris Williams. Both Williams and Bennett, a third-round pick, will play together for the Chicago Bears but the Commodores are worse off for it.
If you are going to be online betting, you'll either be betting against Vandy or taking the under frequently. While the offensive is a complete disaster, the defense has some decent parts.
The secondary is by far and away the strongest point on the team. Senior safety Reshard Langford is a big hitter while cornerback D.J. Moore is one of the best in the conference.
The Commodores biggest hurdle will be their schedule this year. In 2007, they came within one win of ending their 25-year bowl drought but they fell just short. That schedule had some cream puff games, which the Commodores won't benefit from this year.
There's no matchups against any Division I-AA programs like usual and instead, non-conference games include a trip to Miami of Ohio and Wake Forest.
The Commodores are expected to win only three games according to online betting odds but they would be lucky to get any more than three.
They'll have home contests against South Carolina, Auburn, Florida and Tennesse, and road trips to Missisippi State and Georgia. They won only twice in the conference last year and should get swept in the SEC with an inferior squad in 2008.

Stan Simmons first tasted football through the college game, but his football handicapping has strictly focused on the professional sport. Not many people devote as much time to the NFL as Simmons. For six days a week he works, labors and handicaps the sport, and on the seventh he rests as the games play out. Thoughts or questions?
