NFL Betting – Brett Favre, Jets Poised For Playoffs
Online sports betting: New York Jets and Brett Favre
- Can Brett Favre lead Jets back to playoffs?
- Has an aggressive offseason paid off?
- How much pressure is on Eric Mangini now?
NFL betting aficionados were waiting to pounce on the over for regular season win total on either the New York Jets or Tampa Bay Buccaneers when it became clear that Brett Favre was on his way out of Green Bay and on his way to one of those two destinations: Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the New York Jets.
Favre will still be wearing green, but just a different shade as he's now a member of the Jets.
betonline.com was the first internet sportsbook to post the adjusted line and the new regular season win total for the Jets is set at eight wins.
Gang green has added what they believe to be the last piece of the puzzle and it is conceivable to start looking at the long term NFL futures for the Jets to win the Super Bowl.
The Jets were a 10-win team in 2006, slipped up in 2007, but have pieced together an aggressive offseason that at least has them in the conversation for the playoffs and potentially, the Super Bowl.
For the first time in a while, the Jets offense will have a quarterback who can threaten defenses down the field. From Vinny Testaverde, to Ray Lucas, to Quincy Carter, to Chad Pennington, the Jets offensive has been forced to be conservative because of limitations at the quarterback position.
NFL betting sharps now know that the Jets are a dangerous team. They spent money to rebuild both lines of scrimmage, signing Alan Faneca and Damien Woody for their offensive line, then trading for defensive tackle Kris Jenkins.
Head coach Eric Mangini was feeling the heat last year after the Jets underachieved just one season after overachieving, but this year he just needs his team to play to the level of their talent.
Mangini has coached up a defense with spare parts before but now he has his most talented roster yet. In addition to Jenkins, the Jets also signed free agent linebacker Calvin Pace and spent the sixth-overall pick on Vernon Gholston. That's added to a defense that includes plenty of young stars like cornerback Darrelle Revis, linebacker David Harris and safety Kerry Rhodes.
With Favre on offense, there should be a beneficial ripple effect for everyone. Thomas Jones and Leon Washington should find plenty of running room while Laveranues Coles, Jerricho Cotchery, Brad Smith and first-round pick, tight end Dustin Keller, should be rejuvenated playing with an experienced quarterback.
The Jets might be in a tough division but they are now clearly the second-best team in the AFC East. They are better than the Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins and they are one of the few teams in the league that isn't intimidated playing the New England Patriots. The Jets will at the very least be a .500 team, which earns you a push. The more likely case is that they will win nine or 10 games.

Stan Simmons first tasted football through the college game, but his football handicapping has strictly focused on the professional sport. Not many people devote as much time to the NFL as Simmons. For six days a week he works, labors and handicaps the sport, and on the seventh he rests as the games play out. Thoughts or questions?
