49ers Rams Betting – Rams In Position To Clinch NFC West Crown Versus 49ers Sunday
In one of the biggest turnarounds in NFL history, the St. Louis Rams could potentially go from the basement of the NFC to division champions in just one year, without really improving that much. The Rams are 6-8 heading in to their matchup against the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday, which is good for a tie with the Seattle Seahawks for first place in what is undoubtedly football’s worst division.
NFL Betting: San Francisco 49ers @ St. Louis Rams
Online Sports Betting Odds: St. Louis – 2.5
The 49ers are still eligible to win the division despite a 5-9 record, and the truth is that either of these teams could very well become the first to get in to the postseason with a 6-10 record. San Francisco is one game back of St. Louis, and as the preseason favorite to win the NFC West they could be the most likely to take that honor, something this week’s game will go a long way towards deciding.
Why To Bet On The 49ers
San Francisco has just one road win in six tries this season, but it did come against a division rival in a 27-6 win over the Arizona Cardinals in late November. The 49ers have been very inconsistent over the past few weeks but have shown flashes with four wins in seven games, three of which have come against teams from the NFC West. San Francisco needed overtime to beat the Rams in their earlier meeting this season, with Troy Smith throwing for 356 yards and a score, while Frank Gore ran for 87 and also got in to the endzone. Gore won’t be available for this game, but veteran Brian Westbrook and Anthony Dixon have done a good football betting job since he went down.
Why To Bet On The Rams
Quarterback Sam Bradford is the real deal, and may already be the best quarterback in the division. The first overall pick in the 2010 draft has thrown for 3, 065 yards and 17 touchdowns in his rookie season, and should be at his best at home as St. Louis attempts to rebound from consecutive losses. The last time that happened the Rams managed to bounce back with a pair of wins, and if Bradford and company can put more up than the 13 they’ve managed in each of the past two weeks, they should be fine. The defense isn’t great, but they are consistent and can force turnovers.
How The Game Will Play Out
These final two games of the regular season will serve as the arrival of Bradford in the NFL, as the former Oklahoma Sooners’ quarterback shows why he was selected by the Rams with a couple of tough games against division rivals. St. Louis wins this one in a game that is more lopsided than many would have predicted, setting up a huge showdown with the Seattle Seahawks the following week in a season finale where the division is on the line.
