The Bills vs Steelers odds are just another day at the preseason office for the Steelers, but they mean a lot more to the Bills, who are still waiting for their offense to gel. Bills vs Steelers odds maker breakdown: Offense Though Trent Edwards reportedly has a good grasp of the no-huddle offense, the Bills haven’t looked dangerous so far in the preseason. Edwards is 20 for 25 but has thrown two picks compared to no touchdowns and is having trouble throwing the deep ball. He’s likely to have a depleted supporting cast when he does play, as the Bills will likely be missing their WR1, RB1 and maybe their RB2 - more on that later. The Steelers are likely to be careful with the perpetually nicked-up Ben Roethlisberger and Willie Parker, but their offensive depth should carry them. Mewelde Moore and Rashard Mendenhall at running back and Shaun McDonald and Limas Sweed at wideout could see extensive minutes. Mendenhall in particular should run with purpose, as he wants to prove to betting brass that he can be a starter. Betting Edge: Steelers
Bills vs Steelers odds maker breakdown: Defense The Steelers are deep and hungry as ever and they’ve looked strong early, especially against the run. First-round draft pick Ziggy Hood is getting his shot to make an impact in the front seven and should put heat on Trent Edwards. Like their offense, the Bills “D” seems to be in transition right now, waiting for Aaron Maybin to sign and delaying Jairus Byrd’s debut so he can heal his injuries. The Bills are allowing plenty of points and the trend could continue against the Steelers. Betting Edge: Steelers
Bills vs Steelers odds maker breakdown: Special Teams Both teams have playmakers everywhere among their special teamers, so there’s no offshore sportsbook edge to report. The Bills have speedy Roscoe Parrish and Terrence McGee to return kicks, whereas the Steelers can counter with Santonio Holmes or Mewelde Moore. The Bills have an outstanding punter in Brian Moorman but the Steelers have a solid kicker in Jeff Reid, who can handle Heinz Field’s vicious kicking conditions. Call this category even. Bills vs Steelers odds maker breakdown: Notable Injuries Both teams are nicked up, but the Bills are especially shorthanded. Marshawn Lynch is suspended and speedy scat back Fred Jackson, who will start the first four games of the regular season, has a thumb injury that could keep him out or at least limit him this week. To top it off, Terrell Owens remains out of the lineup with a sprained toe. The Steelers have some injury woes at quarterback – Dennis Dixon is out and Ben Roethlisberger has an ankle injury. Even if Big Ben sits, though, the Bills are in worse shape. Betting Edge: Steelers
Bills vs Steelers betting breakdown: Outlook and Pick It’s tempting to pick the Bills because they have much more to play for, but they’re too depleted and out of sync to make any noise in Pittsburgh. Even though they have nothing to prove as a team, plenty of individual Steelers are fighting hard for increased roles. Expect big games from McDonald and Mendenhall as the Steelers cruise at home. STAN’S PICK: Steelers -5
