Chiefs Colts Betting – Young Chiefs Get Burned By Manning, Colts
Online betting players couldn’t have foreseen the start by Kansas City, a young but talented team who has stormed out of the gates. But a bye week may have taken some of their momentum away as they head to Indianapolis to face a Colts team coming off a potentially crushing loss. The Colts will use their experience, and their quarterback will take advantage of an inexperienced secondary in a big win.

What’s On The Line
The Kansas City Chiefs (3-0) are the only unbeaten team left in the NFL as they come off their bye week, and this is the first of three straight games against the AFC South, including two in a row away from home. The Indianapolis Colts (2-2) were upset 31-28 in Jacksonville on the strength of a 59-yard field goal at the end of regulation, but their defense became inconsistent once again. This is a proving game for the young Chiefs, but they’re going up against one of the best home teams in the league.
Offensive Matchups: Chiefs Colts Betting
It’s no surprise that the Chiefs are going to run, run and run some more with Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles in the backfield, which is why they’re fifth in the league in rushing. Matt Cassel showed that he could make some plays in the 31-10 slaughter of San Francisco 49ers a couple of weeks ago, passing for 250 yards, three touchdowns and a pick. They’ve also turned the ball over just three times, which is crucial to their development.
The Colts are third in the league offensively, and Peyton Manning just looks to be doing whatever he wants out there, but against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Colts made some mistakes they don’t usually make. Reggie Wayne had 15 catches, but also a late fumble. There were numerous dropped passes which could have put the Colts in better positions to score. It’s going to be a long, long week for the Colts in practice, but they can still score at will.

Defensive Matchups: Chiefs Colts Betting
Kansas City’s defense is still very young, but they’re picking up quickly on the lessons of coordinator Romeo Crennel and are currently 14th in the league. This should be their biggest test yet, dealing with the Colts’ high-paced offense, and doing it on the road. They’re a fast defense at the back end, but they sometimes gamble. The guy to watch this week is rookie safety Eric Berry, who may have to watch Indianapolis tight end Dallas Clark when he starts going down the field. Berry is a sure tackler, but his coverage skills are still lacking a bit.
Indianapolis’ defense reared its ugly head against the Jaguars, allowing 174 yards on the ground, and they made David Garrard look like Joe Montana on a couple of plays, especially late in the game. They failed to get any sort of pressure on Garrard, then couldn’t tackle him when he scrambled on a 25-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Linebacker Clint Sessions made his first start in three games, and when he gets back into game shape, the run defense could be better, but they’re going to have to find a pass rush outside of ends Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis.

Notable Injuries: Chiefs Colts Betting
Defensive ends Tyson Jackson (knee) and Wallace Gilberry (back), linebacker Tamba Hali (ankle/foot), safeties Jon McGraw (hamstring) and Reshard Langford (ankle), and cornerback Javier Arenas (ankle) were all banged up before the bye week, but the majority should play this week for the Chiefs.
Receiver Pierre Garcon (hamstring) has missed two games in a row and will have to be closely watched this week for the Colts.

Outlook and Pick: Chiefs Colts Betting
NFL betting odds should definitely favor the Colts in this matchup, as the Chiefs are winless in four trips to Indianapolis since 1990. The Colts are also 3-1 ATS in that time, and they’re 8-2 ATS in their last 10 home games, but only 5-5 ATS. The Chiefs are coming off a bye week, but they’re still a young team who are going on the road to face one of the top teams in the NFL of the last decade, so nerves could be a factor, especially early. The Colts know they can’t afford to get behind too much, and they know what is at stake. Look for Manning to give the young Kansas City secondary fits all day long, unless they can get to him in the backfield. Take the Colts in your sports betting book.
