Chiefs vs Jaguars Odds - Jags will get their MoJo going versus weak defense
Are the Chiefs vs Jaguars odds exciting? Not really, unless your name is Maurice Jones-Drew or David Garrard. But hey – every NFL betting matchup gives you an opportunity to win, so it’s worth breaking down Sunday’s game at Jacksonville. Does the Chiefs’ porous defense stand a chance?
Chiefs vs Jaguars Odds: Jaguars -6.5 (Total: 41.5)

Chiefs vs Jaguars odds maker breakdown: The Storyline
Unless you include offensive “Tweets,” nothing really qualifies as a storyline for the Chiefs this season; they’re simply irrelevant. The Jaguars at least have a few talented offensive players keeping them barely afloat in the AFC and a win can get them back to .500.
Chiefs vs Jaguars odds maker breakdown: Offense
It feels like the Chiefs’ offense is a total joke but it’s actually been kind of OK this online betting season, ranking closer to the middle of the pack. Matt Cassel can at least move the ball against bad pass defenses (and Jacksonville qualifies). It will be interesting to see what Jamaal Charles can do as well with Larry Johnson not around to steal carries in the backfield.
The Jags clearly have the better offense playmakers, however. Maurice Jones-Drew has been every bit the monster people thought he’d be in his first season as a starter, rushing for 10 touchdowns in seven games. He’ll have no trouble embarrassing a Chiefs’ run “defense” allowing 131 yards per game. David Garrard has disappointed this season but he and Mike Sims-Walker should hook up for some nice gains versus the Chiefs pass “D,” which also happens to be atrocious. Betting Edge: Jaguars
Chiefs vs Jaguars odds maker breakdown: Defense
Ugh. Awarding a defensive edge is picking the lesser of two evils. Neither team does anything well; the Chiefs and Jags have 14 combined sacks, occupying the bottom two ranks in the league in that category. To put that figure in perspective, 26 teams have 14 sacks on their own. The Jags and Chiefs also each rank in the NFL’s bottom third in both pass defense and run defense. Since the Jags at least turned in respectable home defensive efforts against Indianapolis and Tennessee earlier this season, we’ll give them a minor edge. Betting Edge: Jaguars
Chiefs vs Jaguars odds for total: 41.5
It’s not like the Chiefs and Jags feature high-octane offenses but their total lack of defensive ability should allow each team to move the ball. No pass rush means Cassel and Garrard will have time to make plays. This game will go over the total. Pick: Over 41.5
Chiefs vs Jaguars odds maker breakdown: Notable Injuries
With cornerback Rashean Mathis returning from a broken finger, no Jaguar starter is injured at the moment. The Chiefs are quite banged up. Starting free safety Jarad Page is done for the year, Mike Brown is always hurt and replacement fee safety Jon McGraw is battling a sore hammy. Kansas City’s offensive line is also hobbled all over. Betting Edge: Jaguars
Chiefs vs Jaguars betting breakdown: Outlook and Pick
In a battle of two highly flawed teams, it’s best to pick the home squad. Jacksonville has at least proven capable of picking on weak teams and should do so on Sunday. Expect MJD to duplicate his virtuoso performance of Week 8 and then some. STAN’S PICK: Jaguars -6.5
