Chiefs Texans Betting – Kansas City Is In For A Tough Game In Houston
Overview:
Not many people were betting that the Kansas City Chiefs would be holding onto first place in the AFC West going into week six, but that unlikely NFL betting scenario is playing out as the Chiefs get ready to take on the Houston Texans.
The Houston Texans find themselves on top of the AFC South, and while the success of the Texans was not as unexpected as the good fortunes of the Chiefs, there are not many NFL predictions that had the Texans on top of the Indianapolis Colts almost half-way through the regular season. The Texans have the quarterback-wide receiver combo of Matt Schaub to Andre Johnson that is giving defenses all over the NFL problems.
NFL Preview for October 17, 2010: Kansas City Chiefs @ Houston Texans (-4)
Offense:
One of the best moves the Kansas City Chiefs did in this off-season was to acquire running back Thomas Jones from the New York Jets Thomas Jones and running back Jamaal Charles are working together on the third-best ranked running game in the NFL. When the Chiefs need to put a defense back on its heels, they give the ball to their running game. Once the running game loosens up the defense, quarterback Matt Cassel starts to air the ball out. However, Cassel has not been very productive this season, and if the Chiefs are going to beat a quality team like the Texans, then they will need the passing game to improve.
The Texans offense is one of the best-kept secrets in the NFL. The league still looks at the Texans as an expansion team, and that may be why the offensive weapons on the Houston roster are not getting their due. Quarterback Matt Schaub is on pace for a nearly 4,000 yard season in the air, receiver Andre Johnson could have a 1,500 yard season receiving and running back Arian Foster is looking at a pace of over 1,200 yards on the ground. The Texans can get the job done on offense both on the ground and in the air.
Defense:
The problem for the Texans is the number of points they allow on defense. Houston allows an average of 29 points per game, they are 31st in total yards per game surrendered with 409 yards and they are dead last in the league against the pass, allowing an average of 330 yards per game. However, the Texans are fifth against the run allowing only 79 yards per game on the ground. A strong rush defense is exactly what the Texans need to beat the Chiefs.
The Chiefs are only allowing 14 points per game on defense, but they are 25th against the pass as they are allowing an average of 240 yards per game in the air. With Houston’s ability to score from the air or the ground, the Chiefs may not have enough defense to win.
The Bottom Line:
The Texans defense lines up perfectly against an offense like the Chiefs. The Texans can shut down the run and put the game in the hands of Kansas City quarterback Matt Cassel. Once the ball goes to the air for the Chiefs, they find themselves in trouble.
