Colts Patriots Betting – Indy’s Pride Allows Them To Cover Incredibly Large Spread
Sports betting players threw Indianapolis out of the window as soon as Peyton Manning went down, but no one expected the Colts to be this bad. Yes, they did lose 62-7 in New Orleans earlier this year, but their pride will come through on Sunday when they head to New England to meet the Patriots and while they have no chance of winning, the Colts should cover one of the biggest spreads we’ve ever seen in the NFL.

Pick: Indianapolis Colts +20.5
Why Bet On Indianapolis Colts (0-11 SU, 2-9 ATS)
The Colts put up a fight in a 27-19 loss at home to Carolina, but it’s just not their season. Curtis Painter was 15-of-29 for 226 yards, a touchdown and two picks, and he has now lost his job. Indianapolis was 1-of-9 on third down and they were 1-of-3 inside the 20-yard line, which is par for the course. Defensively, the Colts gave up 201 yards on the ground and with Carolina running the ball at will, Indy had the ball for just under 24 minutes. That’s barely enough time for this offense to be effective, but to be honest, they could have the ball for 45 minutes and struggle to score points. There were wholesale changes this week as head coach Jim Caldwell named Dan Orlovsky as the starting quarterback, and defensive coordinator Larry Coyer was fired. Orlovsky has experience in this situation as he was the quarterback of the Detroit team that went 0-16 (ironically, Colts linebacker Ernie Sims was also on that team), and even though he isn’t much better than Painter, he’s better and that’s all Indy can ask for.
There are no new injuries to report in Indianapolis and quite frankly, they don’t need any more injuries. The Peyton Manning injury crippled their season and it was all downhill from there. It’ll be interesting to see if the Colts can move the ball against a Patriots defense that is dead last in the league in yards allowed. If Indy can avoid turnovers, they may have a slight chance….to cover the NFL betting spread.
Why Bet On New England Patriots (8-3 SU, 7-4 ATS)
Tim Brady gashed Philadelphia in a 38-20 romp on the road, going 24-of-34 for 361 yards and three touchdowns with no picks, and even though BenJarvus Green-Ellis scored twice on the ground and the Patriots ran for 104 yards, this was Brady’s show. Deion Branch caught six passes for 125 yards, while Wes Welker was next with eight receptions for 115 yards and two touchdowns for the Patriots, who put up 457 yards. They still gave up 466 yards against the Eagles (Vince Young threw for 400 yards), but the Patriots jumped out to a 24-13 halftime lead and Philadelphia stopped running the ball, which played into New England’s hands. The Eagles have a dangerous ground game and even averaged 4.3 yards, but they rushed to get back into the game, which is probably right as Brady was focused and planned on scoring every time he took the field. The Patriots have now averaged 36.3 points in their three-game winning streak and remain as one of the top teams in the AFC, along with Pittsburgh and Baltimore.
There are no major injury worries for the Patriots, who have opened up a two-game lead in the AFC East and they could run the table heading into the playoffs. You won’t have to worry about the Patriots remaining focused for the Colts, who have been their bitter rivals for the last decade and even though there is no Manning, don’t expect them to show mercy on Indianapolis. Remember in 2007 when the Patriots were breaking scoring records and running up the score on everyone? This game could be something like that, but the defense has to pick up their game and feast on the brutal Indianapolis offense.
How It Will Play Out
The Patriots are a 20.5-point NFL betting spread at home after opening up as 21 points, one of the largest spreads ever (the largest came in 2007, when New England was favored by 24 points at home against Philadelphia). The Patriots are 3-2 SU and 1-3-1 ATS in New England over their last five meetings, with three games going over the posted total, but you can throw those games out as the Colts don’t have Manning.
There is no way the Colts can win this game, it’s only whether they can keep it close or not. Belichick seems like the type of coach that will run up the score just to see if his team can beat that spread. The defense is without its coordinator and not only that, they’re bad in the first place. But this line is just too big to take a chance on and the Colts may be motivated by being such large underdogs and keep it close, like, 17 points. Ride with Indianapolis to cover this insane online betting spread.
