Colts Redskins Betting – Colt Try To Get On Truck While The Redskins Try To Keep The Magic Going
There it is again. The betting world is just waiting for an angry Peyton Manning to turn the Colts around this season and go on a winning streak. The NFL betting world is putting a lot of stock in the Indianapolis Colts offense and, to be honest, the Colts do not have the talent to live up to those expectations. Peyton Manning is only one player. He is a great player and one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game, but he is only one player.
The Washington Redskins are taking advantage of other teams’ errors to put themselves in first place in the NFC East. A missed field goal at the end of regulation time by Green Bay Packerskicker Mason Crosby allowed last week’s game to go into overtime. The Washington defense turned up the heat and the game was won in overtime by Washington kicker Graham Gano. It wasn’t pretty, but when the week five NFL betting online scores were recorded the Redskins were winners.
NFL Game Preview for October 17, 2010: Indianapolis Colts (-3) @ Washington Redskins
Offense:
The Redskins do not have what can be considered a potent offense. The addition of quarterback Donovan McNabb has raised the passing game of the Redskins to seventh in the league, but the offense is only averaging 18 points a game. The running game with Clinton Portis and Ryan Torain is acceptable. Where the Redskins are seeing production is with wide receiver Santana Moss and tight end Chris Cooley, but even those two only have three touchdowns between them.
It only takes a quick glance at the Colts offensive stats to understand what is going on this season. The Colts average 317 passing yards a game which makes them fourth in the league. You expect that with Peyton Manning. But the offense is only averaging 80 yards per game on the ground, and that is where the problems start showing up. The Colts offensive line is horrible. Until they get the offensive line and the running game straightened out, they will continue to have problems winning.
Defense:
Defense is what has been holding the Washington Redskins together this season. Even with the distraction that is Albert Haynesworth, the Redskins are only allowing an average of 18 points per game. However, the Redskins bend but don’t break defense is allowing opposing offenses to stay on the field for a long time. When Donovan McNabb cannot get on the field, he cannot score touchdowns.
The Colts defense is just bad all around. They allow an average of 20 points per game, 346 yards per game total, 204 yards in the air per game and 142 yards on the ground. The Washington running game could have a field day against the Colts defense.
The Bottom Line:
The online sports betting picks early in the season had the Colts as 13-2 favorites to win the Super Bowl. The problem is that the holes in the armor have been there all along. The Colts defense cannot stay healthy, and it cannot stop the run. Peyton Manning can throw the ball all day long, but if he cannot stretch out the field because the running game is weak, then touchdowns are hard to come by. The Redskins just need to be opportunistic again to win this week.
Pick: Washington Redskins
