Colts vs Saints Betting Odds – Potential Super Bowl Matchup

Posted by Stan Simmons on 1/19/2010 3:56:58 PM

NFL Odds: Colts

The Colts vs Saints betting odds could be one of the best Super Bowl matchups we have seen in a long time. Without a doubt, the Colts and Saints were the two best teams in the NFL this season and at one point, we thought both might finish with no losses in the regular season. Although that changed, online betting sharps know that a matchup between the Colts and Saints in the Super Bowl would pit the best versus the best.

Saints would wash away memories of 2006 NFC Championship loss

The Storyline - Colts Saints Betting Odds
A matchup between the Colts and the Saints would have plenty of underlying storylines. The last time the Colts were in the Super Bowl was 2006, which, coincidentally, was the last time the Saints were near a Super Bowl when they lost to the Chicago Bears in the 2006 NFC Championship game. Sportsbook odds makers know that the Colts ended up schooling the Bears in that Super Bowl.

A matchup between the Colts and the Saints would also be a matchup of Peyton Manning versus his home town team. He was born in New Orleans.

For the Saints, they’d like to get past their best memory in the Drew Brees-Sean Payton era when they lost in that NFC Championship game. A Super Bowl appearance and win would do exactly that.

Also, the Super Bowl will be played in Miami this year, which is the place that Drew Brees nearly signed before choosing New Orleans in 2006.

Colts Saints Betting Quarterbacks:
NFL betting fans know that a matchup between the Colts and Saints would give us a matchup of arguably the two best NFL quarterbacks of this generation. Manning and Brees are two of the best in the business – if not the best in the business – in the NFL nowadays and a meeting of the two would create quite the air show. Both passing games are ranked in the top four and both quarterbacks combined for 8888 passing yards and 77 touchdowns this year.

There is no doubt that the storylines would be uncanny if this was the Super Bowl matchup.

Colts Saints Betting Odds: X-Factors
All sports betting cappers know that Manning versus Brees would be the main storyline, but there are a few players that could be x-factors that make the difference – as with every Super Bowl.

For the Saints, that guy could be Reggie Bush. He is a big factor on special teams, where the Colts are a bit weak, and he has tremendous skills out of the backfield as well.

For the Colts, their x-factor would likely be Matt Stover. We all know about Manning, and Reggie Wayne, and Austin Collie, and Dallas Clark, but one real advantage that the Colts have is in the kicking game. Stover has been kicking well but Garrett Hartley is a big question mark.

Outlook & Pick
If this is the Super Bowl matchup, you have to side with the Colts for one reason: they have experience. They are in the playoffs regularly, they have a Super Bowl ring already and they know what it takes. The Saints are good, but that slight difference could be huge on the biggest stage of them all.

PICK: Colts
