Jets Browns Betting – New York Faces Tricky Road Test In Cleveland
The New York Jets’ offense is floundering, and the Cleveland Browns are developing a reputation for being giant killers. This Sunday’s game will be genuinely interesting.
NFL Betting: New York Jets @ Cleveland Browns
Online Betting Odds: Jets -3
Why To Bet On The Jets
The Jets, for all their problems on offense, have a very solid defense that is hard for any NFL team to break down. New York has allowed no more than 23 points to any of its opponents through eight games. Coach Rex Ryan’s defense is reliable in the fourth quarter and has regularly been able to shut down opponents when in need of a big stop. New York’s only losses so far this season were games in which the defense played superbly. The Jets dropped a 10-9 decision to the Baltimore Ravens and a 9-0 contest to the Green Bay Packers. Going up against the Cleveland Browns, with a rookie quarterback – Colt McCoy – the Jets have a very good chance to force multiple turnovers and gain short fields for their struggling offense. McCoy will have a tough time adjusting to the various packages, formations and personnel groupings that Ryan will put on the field for New York. Ryan is great at disguising his looks while also dialing up a lot of blitz-oriented pressure. If McCoy can’t handle the heat, this game will get away from Cleveland, and the Jets will be in very good shape on the road.
Why To Bet On The Browns
The Browns might be a sub-.500 team and they might have an untested rookie quarterback on their roster, but it has to be said that with Colt McCoy at quarterback, the Browns have merely won in New Orleans and then waxed the New England Patriots Cleveland romped past New England this past Sunday, 34-14, as McCoy played with the poise of a much older man. McCoy was a crisp 14-of-19 as a passer, and he didn’t throw a single interception. The first-year starter from Texas has responded extremely well after being thrust into duty earlier this season. As long as the Browns continue to get efficient, low-turnover performances from McCoy, they’ll be in each and every game they play. Moreover, the Browns’ ability to contain both Drew Brees and Tom Brady in consecutive weeks speaks volumes about their defensive prowess. Cleveland should certainly be able to make life difficult for New York quarterback Mark Sanchez, who has looked lost for much of the 2010 season.
The other thing to note about this game is that Cleveland head coach Eric Mangini left the Jets in a very bitter and distasteful fashion. The acrimonious parting will make Mangini gear up for this game, much as he clearly did for the previous week’s contest against New England and his old mentor, Bill Belichick. The Browns will be flowing with confidence in this game, and that certainly helps their cause.
How The Game Will Play Out
This will be a game in which both quarterbacks face difficult challenges. Sanchez has struggled mightily this year, and it doesn’t look like the Jets’ offense is going to get better anytime soon. Colt McCoy is playing better than Sanchez right now, but the rookie will face the toughest defense he’s seen in 2010. The verdict here is that the Jets will force more mistakes – and more consequential ones – than the Browns’ defense will. Sanchez will play poorly, but McCoy will play worse. New York will win thanks to at least one defensive touchdown.
