Jets vs Buccaneers Betting Odds - Why is Darrelle Revis foaming at the mouth?
NFL Odds: Pick Jets |
Jets vs Buccaneers betting odds hardly amount to the game of the week in NFL betting, but there’s one man who begs to differ. Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, a major contender for Defensive Player of the Year honors, thinks Sunday is Christmas Day. The reason: Josh Freeman.

Jets vs Buccaneers betting odds maker breakdown: The Storyline
Left for dead in the AFC playoff picture a few weeks ago, the Jets have stormed back to .500 with two straight victories, picking on anemic quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Bucs are simply seeing what they have with rookie pivot Josh Freeman and preparing for a high pick in the 2010 draft.
Jets vs Buccaneers betting odds maker breakdown: Offense
Neither of these teams is the standard for offense in the NFL since each squad relies on a rookie quarterback. After a hot start to his career, Mark Sanchez seems to be regressing. Now, after spraining his PCL, he could be even less effective; he’s no guarantee to play but the Jets are reportedly pushing him. Thankfully for Gang Green, they have the NFL’s top-ranked rushing attack powering their offense, churning out 168.6 yards per game. Last week, the Jets faced the worst run “D” in the league and racked up 249 yards with their eyes closed. This week, the Jets get the second-worst run-stopping unit in football. Thomas Jones and Shonn Greene love the schedule maker and so should anyone betting on New York’s NFL odds this week.
Josh Freeman has arguably flashed more potential than Sanchez this year but he’s hitting the proverbial rookie wall right now. The Bucs’ last game was arguably his worst as a pro; the Panthers picked him off five times. The Jets’ No. 1 pass defense gives him a hellish matchup. Expect plenty of check downs to Kellen Winslow and Cadillac Williams.

Jets vs Buccaneers betting odds maker breakdown: Defense
Not surprisingly, Rex Ryan has given the Jets “D” a huge shot in the arm this season. They allow the fewest passing yards in the league, largely because Revis has emerged as football’s top shutdown corner. He’ll have no trouble with Antonio Bryant this week considering what he did against Randy Moss, Andre Johnson and Marques Colston earlier this year. New York is average against the run but the Bucs aren’t good enough to exploit the holes and will probably be playing from behind anyway.
Tampa plays decent pass defense according to the numbers but their rank is more a reflection of how poorly they stop the run. Teams don’t need to pass against them to win and the Jets certainly won’t with their outstanding running game and Mark Sanchez hobbled. Expect New York to run the ball 40 times and embarrass Tampa in the process.

Jets vs Buccaneers betting odds for total: Not posted
Until the Jets confirm Sanchez’s status, we won’t see a sportsbook total. However, even if he plays, a banged up Sanchez will likely perform to healthy Kellen Clemens’ level. Tampa won’t score and the Jets will chew up clock with their running game so I wouldn’t expect too much offense in this contest.
Pick: Under
Jets vs Buccaneers betting odds maker breakdown: Notable Injuries
Aside from Sanchez’s knee, no other injury stands to impact Sunday’s result significantly. Michael Clayton probably won’t play for the Bucs and the Jets should be missing offensive lineman Robert Turner and corner Dwight Lowery.

Jets vs Buccaneers betting breakdown: Outlook and Pick
Expect nothing less than ugly football at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday. We’ll see turnovers galore from Tampa and probably a massive performance from Thomas Jones. Don’t expect a bounce-back effort from Freeman, whose confidence is likely rattled. Pick the Jets and watch Darrelle Revis bolster his defensive MVP campaign with at least one interception.
