Jets vs Saints odds maker breakdown: The Storyline
We know the cliché storyline – each undefeated team wants to show it’s “for real.” The better storyline to focus on is the battle between the Jets defense, which has been far and away the NFL’s best (sorry, Denver, but you faced Cleveland and Oakland), taking on the Saints offense, which is also the league’s best.
Jets vs Saints odds maker breakdown: Offense
Hey – you have to hand it to Mark Sanchez. An 87.7 rating and 3-0 record to open his career is nothing to sneeze at. But let’s not waste time comparing New York’s offense to New Orleans’. The Jets move the ball just enough to support their “D” – nothing more. The Saints are a juggernaut. Drew Brees and his many passing weapons carved up the Lions and Eagles in Weeks 1 and 2. When Buffalo keyed on him last week, he had no trouble handing off the rock and watching Pierre Thomas gouge the Bills for 126 yards and two scores in two quarters. Betting Edge: Saints
Jets vs Saints odds maker breakdown: Defense
No contest here either. Like New York’s offense, New Orleans’ defense does all it needs to do. So far, it’s one of the league’s best run-stopping units. The Saints also sacked Trent Edwards four times last week and will try hard to fluster Sanchez. You can’t mess with Rex Ryan’s boys, though. The Jets have faced the Texans, Patriots and Titans yet somehow allow just 11 points per game so far. The biggest key to New York’s online sports betting success: Darrelle Revis’ emergence as an elite shutdown corner. He handled Andre Johnson and Randy Moss so Marques Colston won’t scare him. Betting Edge: Jets
Jets vs Saints odds for total: 46
As much as the Saints love to run and gun, I wouldn’t bet on tons of points at my sportsbook if I were you. The Jets “D” will make New Orleans work hard for its points just as Buffalo did. Meanwhile, the Saints’ surprisingly solid run defense will force the Jets to rely on Mark Sanchez more. Playing in a loud dome on the road against an improving pass rush, he may be intimidated, so the Jets could struggle to score too. Pick: Under 46
Jets vs Saints odds maker breakdown: Notable Injuries
It’s safe to say the Saints have to make do without Mike Bell again, but that’s no big deal; Pierre Thomas was supposed to be the primary ball carrier all along and looked great last week. Lito Sheppard didn’t play last week at corner for the Jets and Lance Moore sat at wide receiver, so those losses will offset each other if they occur again. Betting Edge: Draw
Jets vs Saints betting breakdown: Outlook and Pick
The New York Jets are way ahead of schedule. They have the inside track on the AFC East title, the Coach of the Year award (Ryan) and the Offensive Rookie of the Year award (Sanchez). However, they’re showing a bit too much swagger thus far. It’s time for the more experienced Saints to take them down a notch. Bet on New Orleans to teach the Jets a lesson via their offense and defense. STAN’S PICK: Saints -6.5
