NFL Power Rankings - Patriots still on top as week one kicks off
As we look at the NFL week 1 odds for the regular season, we're also into our second edition of the NFL power rankings. We’ve updated the preseason polls and online betting sharps now have a better idea of where the teams sit. Here’s our power rankings as kickoff rapidly approaches this Thursday:
1. New England – 11 wins without Tom Brady probably means 12-15 with him in the lineup. This is the best team in football and NFL betting fans know that with Joey Galloway and Fred Taylor in the mix, they are only going to get better. 2. Pittsburgh – The Super Bowl Champs have some minor issues on the offensive line but nothing as bad as last year. They are still the cream of the crop in the AFC North – and the AFC in general. 3. San Diego – Shawn Merriman is back in the news for the wrong reasons. The Chargers should be more equipped to live without him, but they need him if they plan on making a Super Bowl run. 4. New York Giants – The Giants were looking sluggish in the preseason, but the regular season is where they make their money. If they still struggle once it’s play time for real, and if they truly miss Steve Spagnuolo, then they’ll start dropping in this ranking. 5. Philadelphia – The defense has made wholesale changes while the offense is trying to find an identity. You knew it was only a matter of time before Vick and McNabb started to create friction. 6. Indianapolis – The first season without Tony Dungy shouldn’t be too hard on the Colts, as Jim Caldwell has been with the team since Dungy came from Tampa Bay. That Peyton Manning guy is keeping them a big favorite in the sportsbook. 7. Minnesota – Favre is on board and Adrian Peterson looks absolutely lethal. As much as everyone hates to admit it, Favre may be exactly what the doctor ordered for Purple People Eaters. 8. Dallas – It’s been surprisingly quiet in Dallas these days...does that mean they're truly focused? 9. Atlanta – It’s been smooth sailing for the Falcons in the preseason. They've overhauled their defense, but will they play better or will this be a lingering weakness? 10. New Orleans – NFL betting fans know that their new and improved defense is exactly that. They’ve been flying around the ball in the preseason and they look very aggressive. Teaming with a lethal offense, don’t be surprised if this team wins the NFC. 11. Baltimore 12. Chicago 13. Green Bay 14. Tennessee 15. Houston 16. Carolina 17. New York Jets 18. Washington 19. Miami 20. Buffalo 21. Arizona 22. Seattle 23. Cincinnati 24. Jacksonville 25. St. Louis 26. Cleveland 27. Denver 28. San Francisco 29. Kansas City 30. Detroit 31. Oakland 32. Tampa Bay
