NFL Week 11 Betting Marquee Matchups:
Packers @ Vikings
The two NFC North rivals, having played in Wisconsin just a few weeks earlier, will be playing to determine if one team (the winner of the game at Lambeau Field) can achieve a season sweep and thereby earn the first tiebreaker in the race for the division title, which could very well include the double-reward of a first-round bye in the NFC Playoffs. One way or another, this will be a high-stakes face-off in Minneapolis, and that’s why Pack-Vikings II will be loaded with electricity. Forget the Brett Favre sideshow; that’s a legitimate story angle in Green Bay, but not when Minnesota hosts the team from “Titletown, U.S.A.” There won’t be any time or cause for sentimentality in this old-style shootout. A couple gunslingers – Favre and Aaron Rodgers – will need to gun down as many cornerbacks as they possibly can, and let the chips fall where they may. It ain’t more complicated than that.
Ravens @ Panthers
The week 11 slate is wafer-thin, so this contest – which doesn’t jump off the page as a top-flight tilt – makes the cut. Seattle-New Orleans could be intriguing, especially since Pete Carroll will be coaching against the man who undercut his USC program, Reggie Bush. However, that’s an angle for college sports fans more than anything else. Plus, the Seahawks are just not in the Saints’ league, especially on the road.
It’s worth countering with the contention that the Panthers are not in the Ravens’ league – that could well be true. However, by the time week 11 rolls around, Carolina could have a settled and established quarterback in Matt Moore. If Baltimore isn’t on its game, and Joe Flacco continues to struggle the way he did in 2009, this would be a legitimate fight to the finish line in Charlotte. The Panthers, under coach John Fox, have been one of the most stable franchises in pro football over the past several seasons. If they were to spring an upset of the Super Bowl-minded Ravens, the world would not end.
Colts @ Patriots
They’ve fought for multiple AFC championships. They’ve carried perfect records deep into NFL seasons. They’ve both won at least one Super Bowl (the Patriots taking home three over the past nine years). They’ve boasted the two best quarterbacks of the past decade, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. They’ve played enthralling and supremely memorable epics, including last year’s famed “Fourth and Two” game in which Bill Belichick’s boldness went unrewarded (and hampered by a terrible spot from the officiating crew). Can Indianapolis and New England stage a heartstopper as thrilling as last year’s tilt in HoosierLand? If they do, NFL football fans will be thoroughly delighted. Let the NFL’s best present-day rivalry continue.
