NFL Week 15 Betting Marquee Matchups:
49ers @ Chargers (Thursday)
The Chargers, by this point in the NFL campaign, will have likely tucked away the AFC West. If Denver puts up a better-than-expected fight, perhaps this game would nail down the division title for coach Norv Turner and the rest of the Lightning Bolts. The true source of intrigue in this game will come from the San Francisco side of the divide. This is a huge year for coach Mike Singletary’s club, and while the 49ers might be favored to take home the NFC West for the first time since the Steve Mariucci days (in 2002), they’re not a runaway choice in the division. They’re likely to be involved in a three-way duel with Seattle and Arizona, so as week 15 comes across the NFL calendar, San Francisco will have to find a forceful finishing kick if it wants to cross the threshold and become a winner once again in the National Football League. San Diego will certainly not make it easy for the 49ers to strike playoff gold.
Saints @ Ravens
Drew Brees versus Ray Lewis. New Orleans’ receivers against Baltimore’s defensive backs. The finesse and point-producing potency of the Saints against the defensive toughness and ferocity of the Ravens. Contrasts in styles make for the best and most entertaining sporting events, and that’s why this man-making matchup promises to be such a treat for pigskin aficionados. True, Joe Flacco’s confrontation with New Orleans’ defense might well be the biggest key to this clash, but the Brees-Lewis staredown will earn most of the attention in this contest, and rightfully so. Baltimore’s defense will want to punch Brees in the mouth before the Super Bowl hero can wing the ball downfield to his fleet-footed flotilla of formidable flankers. Sit back, relax, and enjoy what promises to be a wild ride in the state of Maryland.
Packers @ Patriots
Speaking of wild rides, this game has “shootout” written all over it. New England is not the dominant team it used to be, but it can still light up scoreboards. It’s on defense where the Patriots just aren’t as imposing as they once were, so with Aaron Rodgers standing in the pocket for Green Bay, one can and should expect an up-and-down free-for-all in Foxboro. Plenty of passes will be launched inside Gillette Stadium the week before Christmas, giving pro football fans an early stocking stuffer stacked with stupendous action. And oh, both of these teams will likely be chasing playoff berths, if not division titles. Pass the popcorn… and the pigskin.
