Raiders vs Giants odds maker breakdown: The Storyline
The Oakland Raiders do have one win on the year, but they should still be considered among the worst teams in the NFL. Their first overall pick from a couple of years back, JaMarcus Russell, is not a starting caliber quarterback. Their defense is porous and their overall effort each week is embarrassing. It’s only Week 5 and they are already playing like they have the offseason in mind. Meanwhile, the Giants are back atop the NFL food chain. They have been unstoppable this season, taking care of business each and every week. The scary part is that they’ve dealt with some nagging injuries to start the season and are starting to get healthy. As long as Eli Manning’s foot is OK, this could be the Super Bowl favorite in the NFL. Betting Edge: Giants
Raiders vs Giants odds maker breakdown: Offense
NFL betting fans know that the Raiders offense is in complete shambles, mostly because Russell has a quarterback rating of 42.4 and a completion percentage of 39.8%. On top of that, the Raiders are struggling to run the ball, which means points are really hard to come by for this team. Beyond that, they continually shoot themselves in the foot with turnovers, three-and-outs and penalties. On the flip side, the Giants are working about as good as can be right now. The offensive line looks like one of the best in the business, the running game is working well with Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw, and the young wide receivers are stepping up in the passing game. One key will be the plantar fasciitis of Eli Manning. Considering he’s facing the Raiders, though, it doesn’t figure to be a big issue. Betting Edge: Giants
Raiders vs Giants odds maker breakdown: Defense
The Raiders defense is giving up big plays left, right and center. Last week, the Raiders didn’t give up a ton of yards overall but they allowed passing plays of 62, 41 and 44 yards. They also gave up four runs of 11 yards or longer in the first half alone. In the Raiders three losses, the team is giving up just over 25 points per game. The Giants defense is hot right now. They have allowed just 16 points in the last two weeks and even including the Dallas Cowboys 31-point explosion, the Giants have allowed just 16 points per game. Surprisingly, the Giants have just eight sacks on the year but they should rack up a good handful this week against the poor Raiders offensive line. Betting Edge: Giants
Raiders vs Giants odds maker breakdown: Notable Injuries
The Raiders are without left guard Robert Gallery (leg) and the running game has suffered with him out. Tackle Cornell Green also left last week’s contest with a calf injury. Both players will miss this game. Sportsbook odds makers have posted a line on the game, but Giants quarterback Eli Manning does have plantar fasciitis - even though he is questionable, he is on the “probably” side of questionable. Betting Edge: Giants
Raiders vs Giants odds for total: 39
The Raiders offense is deplorable right now so you won’t be able to rely on them for points. On top of that, the Giants will be running more than passing since Manning has a bad foot. Play the under in this game. Pick: Under 39
Raiders vs Giants betting breakdown: Outlook and Pick
It’s always tough to lay 16 points in a game, but right now you’ve got one of the worst teams in the NFL going up against one of the best. The Raiders might not move the ball at all this week and the Giants will. Their defense may even outscore their offense. Lay the points or tease it down if you don’t feel so comfortable.
