Ravens vs Colts betting odds – Colts will remain perfect…in games that their starters play

Posted by Stan Simmons on 1/11/2010 4:00:13 PM

NFL Odds: Colts -6.5

The Ravens vs Colts betting odds is a rematch from Week 11 where the Colts perfect season was threatened in Baltimore. The Colts survived that game and will likely survive this weekend as the road-weary Ravens visit. The Ravens did the Colts a big favor by knocking off the sloppy Patriots last week but online betting cappers know that winning back-to-back road games will be very tough for the Ravens. They were just 3-5 on the road this year.

Sportsbook Odds: Colts -6.5, O/U: 44.5

Baltimore Ravens vs Indianapolis Colts betting odds: Colts -6.5
WHAT: NFL betting
WHEN: Saturday January 16, 2010 at 8:15pm Eastern Time
WHERE: Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, Indiana
PICK: Colts -6.5

What’s On The Line?
The Ravens continue to grown under John Harbaugh, winning a playoff game for a second year running, but they aren’t as much of a threat as they were last year. The Ravens run the ball well and play defense, but nobody is scared of their passing game.

The Colts haven’t tried to win in a few weeks but when they have made an effort this year, they have been perfect. They are thrilled they don’t have to face the Patriots this week. Online betting cappers know that three weeks off for the Colts could be a problem in most cases, but as long as they aren’t as sloppy as the Pats were, they’ll get by Baltimore.

Offensive Matchups: Ravens vs Colts betting odds
The Ravens offense is a bit of question mark after last week. They built up a huge lead thanks to the running game and Pats turnovers but one lingering concern is Joe Flacco. He’s dealing with a hip injury and was just 4-of-10 for 34 yards and an interception. That won’t get the job done this week.

Meanwhile, the Colts will have to come and be sharp. Considering the Ravens have put two starting cornerbacks on injured reserve already, the Colts are going to have some serious advantages in the passing game. With the league MVP Peyton Manning running the show, the Ravens defense won’t scare them whatsoever.

Defensive Matchups: Ravens vs Colts betting odds
NFL betting  fans know that the Ravens have a good defense but they are a little overrated. They had just 32 sacks this year, which is so-so, and if you don’t pressure Manning, that’s going to be a problem. The Ravens were all over the Patriots last week but doing it two weeks in a row against another elite team in the AFC might be tough.

The Colts defense has to do one thing this weekend: shut down the run. In the first matchup, they held the Ravens to just 98 yards rushing on 31 carries, which does not bode well for Baltimore. The Colts will focus on the run and force the Ravens to pass. Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney will test out Flacco’s hip and his mobility.

Betting Edge: Ravens

Notable Injuries: Ravens vs Colts betting odds
Flacco will play but his nagging foot and bruised hip are a problem. Last week, he was visibly in pain and that could be a big problem for Baltimore.

Over/Under Picks: Ravens vs Colts betting odds
The Ravens scored a ton of points off of turnovers and special teams last week, so it’s hard to gauge where their offense is really at. In the first meeting, the two teams scored just 32 points and it’s hard to imagine them scoring significantly more. The Ravens defense should slow the Colts down somewhat while the Colts defense is good enough to cut off the run. Under is the play.

Pick: Under 44.5

Outlook and Pick: Ravens vs Colts betting
The Ravens were just 1-6 against playoff teams prior to last week and while they usually play them tough, they clearly don’t win enough for us to trust them against another playoff team this week.

Flacco isn’t healthy and he’s dealing with a hip and foot problem. Last week, all he had to do was hand off. This week, he’ll need to do a lot more.

The Colts are rested and ready for this game and they should win and  cover against a team they already beat on the road this year.

STAN'S PICK:Colts -6.5
