Redskins Cowboys Betting – Romo Gets Help From “D” In Dallas On Monday
Sports betting players know all about the Washington-Dallas rivalry in the NFC East, but it’s going to get heated on Monday night as the Redskins are off to a great start, while the Cowboys come into this with some injuries. However, the Dallas defense will show the Washington offense that they still have some work to do.
What: NFL Betting
When: Monday, September 26th, 8:30 PM ET
Where: Cowboys Stadium, Dallas, TX
Pick: Dallas Cowboys
Why Bet On Washington Redskins (2-0 SU, 1-1 ATS)
The Redskins scored nine points in the final 5:17 to edge Arizona 22-21 at home, but statistically, Washington dominated the game with 455 yards to 324 for the Cardinals, and would have run away with the game if not for a pair of picks by Rex Grossman. To be fair, Grossman played well, going 25-of-43 for 291 yards and two touchdowns, including a late score on fourth down to Santana Moss. Tim Hightower ran for 96 yard against his former team, and the Redskins ran for 172 yards as a team (rookie Roy Helu averaged 7.4 yards on 10 carries), which also allowed them to hold the ball for 38:30. Washington was also fortunate to move the chains five times due to flags from Arizona, but they took advantage of their fortunes. While Grossman had two interceptions, the Redskins also forced a pair of turnovers of their own while sacking Arizona’s Kevin Kolb three times.
Washington could still be susceptible in the secondary as LaRon Landry says he’ll return from various injuries, but even if he comes back, how healthy or effective will he be? Josh Wilson (back) also left last week’s game, but he says he’ll play as well. The Redskins have looked very good in going 2-0 for the first time since 2007, but they have to remain focused ahead of a massive game against their biggest rival, especially on the road where they haven’t fared well lately. The pressure remains on Grossman, who always seems to be one throw away from a disaster of a game.
Why Bet On Dallas Cowboys (1-1 SU, 1-0-1 ATS)
Tony Romo delivered one of the best performances of his career, returning to the game after leaving with broken ribs and a punctured lung thanks to multiple hits to lead the Cowboys to a 27-24 overtime win in San Francisco when they were down by 10 points with just over 11 minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Romo went 20-of-33 for 345 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Miles Austin (nine catches, 143 yards, three touchdowns) and Jason Witten (seven catches, 102 yards) had over 100 yards for the Cowboys, who had 472 yards to 206 for the 49ers. The running game didn’t do much as Felix Jones left with a separated shoulder, which makes the effort of Romo and the passing game all that much more impressive. The Cowboys sacked Alex Smith six times and forced a pick, and the defense really settled down after getting behind 10-0 after almost nine minutes. Sean Lee, who is quickly emerging as a team leader in only his second year, had 11 tackles for “America’s Team”.
But the team’s NFL betting odds rest on Romo, because Jon Kitna isn’t going to carry them anywhere (although he can handle things in a pinch), and the offensive line simply has to be better. But Romo isn’t their only injury worry as Jones (shoulder) will be likely play hurt, Dez Bryant (quadriceps) is questionable and Austin (hamstring ) is definitely out. The secondary may be getting back corner Terence Newman (groin), who has yet to play this year, but the Cowboys are banged up and meeting a Washington team brimming with confidence right now. Mission No.1, however, is to protect Romo at all costs.
How It Will Play Out
The NFL betting lines for this game are still off the board as news rolls in regarding Romo, and for all intents and purposes, you should expect him to play. The Redskins are 1-4 SU in their last five trips to Dallas, but when it comes to the spread, Washington is 4-1 ATS, including a cover in four straight games. This is going to be a fiercely contested matchup between a pair of teams with a long history, and even though Baltimore-Pittsburgh may currently be the best rivalry in the league, Dallas-Washington has deep roots and a win not only means a chance to move up in the standings, but bragging rights until the next time they meet.
The Washington defense has been very good this year, and they’ll have to get to Romo, who has a passer rating of 89.2 in eight games against the Redskins, but the ribs shouldn’t be an issue as he played most of the San Francisco in extreme pain. At home, on Monday night against Dallas’ biggest rivals, Romo will step up and the defense will expose Grossman for what he really is: a terribly below-average quarterback.
