Redskins Jaguars Betting – Jaguars Look To Keep Playoff Hopes Alive Against Redskins Sunday
A 34-24 road loss to the Indianapolis Colts forced the Jacksonville Jaguars from the top spot in the AFC South this past Sunday. The Jaguars are tied with the Colts for the top spot at 8-6, and a favorable schedule could help them still get in the postseason. Jacksonville will have to do its part by winning the last two games on its schedule, beginning this week with a date against the Washington Redskins.
NFL Betting: Washington Redskins @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Online Sports Betting Odds: Jacksonville – 7
The Redskins have looked awful over the past month, losing four straight games and six of their last seven to fall in to a tie with the Dallas Cowboys for the worst record in the NFC East. Dallas’ owner Jerry Jones fired his head coach due to the team’s poor play, and if Washingotn can’t turn the ship around in enough of a hurry head coach Mike Shanahan could be done too.
Why To Bet On The Redskins
It’s easy to forget that Shanahan did have Washington looking like a contender at the outset of the season, going 4-3 through the first seven weeks before a loss to the Detroit Lions before their bye week sent them in to a 1-6 spiral. The Redskins have looked particularly awful on defense, where they have allowed 31 or more points in four of their last seven games, including 33 in a loss to Dallas last betting on NFL weekend. However, each of the last two times that Washington has allowed that many points, they have come back with solid efforts and that won’t change this week.
Why To Bet On The Jaguars
The Redskins will have their hands full against Jacksonville’s third-ranked rushing attack, which has averaged 151.4 yards per game to this point. Pro Bowl running back Maurice Jones-Drew is the biggest reason, as the diminutive rusher has averaged 4.4 yards per carry and has totaled five touchdowns this season. The Jaguars have played their best football at home where they have won five games in seven tries, and with the television blackouts that plagued the team in recent years on the way out permanently, the team will try to bounce back with a statement game in their home finale. Jacksonville has everything to play for while the Redskins are a couple of games away from a long offseason.
How The Game Will Play Out
Jacksonville has allowed more points than they have scored and haven’t been consistent all year, but a favorable schedule has them two games away from a potential playoff berth. The Jaguars will get back on track against a lowly Redskins’ team that has won three road games this season, but none since mid-November. Look for Jacksonville to run hard and establish the early lead before pulling away in the final two quarters to secure the victory. It will be all for nothing if the Colts can sweep their remaining games, but that won’t change much in the eyes of head coach Jack Del Rio and company.
