It is funny how fast things can change in the NFL. A week ago, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were coming off of a close Monday Night Football win over the Indianapolis Colts and being touted as a possible sleeper in the NFC. Fast-forward 10 days and any talk about the Buccaneers being legitimate contenders has been put to sleep, with a clash between them and the division rival New Orleans Saints among the most important of the games that nobody seems to be talking about this sports betting week.

Following a 45-point dismantling at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers, it seems as though Tampa Bay supporters have been silenced in the media as they prepare for what is easily the most important game of their season so far with a visit from the NFC South-leading Saints.

It is no surprise that the Saints are where they are this season, with four straight wins since an opening night loss to the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers. Quarterback Drew Brees has already thrown for 1,769 passing yards and two touchdowns to pace the offense, while the defense has once again looked good under coordinator Greg Williams. New Orleans has clinched consecutive victories in the first two games of a season-high three-straight on the road, but this will undoubtedly be the toughest after wins at Jacksonville and Carolina.

The Buccaneers showed tenacity, determination, and resiliency through the first four weeks of the NFL season, and while none of those traits showed up in a 48-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the fact remains that it was only one game. Despite the loss, Tampa Bay is still a game above .500 and just one game back of New Orleans for a share of the division lead. The fact that the Buccaneers are still so young means that they are prone to inconsistencies, but this is a talented team that is capable of making a playoff push, and they did beat the Atlanta Falcons to open the NFC South portion of their schedule.

If their last loss was deleted from their record the line in this game would lose immediately lose a field goal, and the Buccaneers shouldn’t be overlooked heading in to this game. New Orleans squeezed past the Panthers by just three points last week on the road, and now they are forced to show up on the road once again to face a team that is much better overall than Carolina. Tampa Bay owns the youngest roster in the NFL, so consider week five a sportsbook promo aberration.
