Titans vs Texans betting odds maker breakdown: The Storyline
Houston, coming off a bye, is in a dogfight for a playoff spot. Catching 9-0 Indianapolis in the AFC South isn't going to happy so the Texans must jockey with several other teams for a Wild Card spot. Inconsistency has dogged Houston for years, but the Texans have won three of their last four games.
The Titans have left their 0-6 start behind them, winning three straight. Johnson has been the major contributing factor, but the play of Vince Young—who has replaced Kerry Collins—can't be overlooked either. It's very unlikely Tennessee can run the table, but its playoff hopes do remain faintly alive.
Titans vs Texans betting odds maker breakdown: Offense
Titans running back Chris Johnson has been frighteningly good in his last four games, racking up 155 yards per outing, six touchdowns and averaging an absolutely absurd 6.7 yards per carry. Last week he did it on the ground and through the air, racking up 232 total yards of offense. He's helped transition Young back into the game; the former first-rounder is completing over 70 percent of his passes with one pick in his three starts.
The Texans are getting by on their explosive passing game. Schaub is finally developing into the quarterback many thought he could be when dealt to Houston a few years ago. He's already tossed 17 touchdown passes while averaging nearly 300 yards per game. He isn’t getting much help from the running game, though, which is plagued by fumbling problems.

Titans vs Texans betting odds maker breakdown: Defense
Tennessee has tightened up the "D" over the past few weeks. Though it allowed 27 points to the 49ers, the defense held Jacksonville and Buffalo to 13 and 17 points, respectively. The Titans were especially good against the Bills last week, scoring two fourth-quarter touchdowns in the 41-17 win. The pass defense has been terrible, though, ranking second-last in the NFL.
Houston's defense has been average, which is a big improvement over previous seasons. The Texans rank 15th in points allowed per game. Lack of pressure could be an increasing problem moving forward, though. The Texans have just 13 sacks this season. By contrast, league-leading Minnesota has 34. It hasn't really burned Houston yet, though.

Titans vs Texans betting odds maker breakdown: Notable Injuries
Titans receiver Justin Gage is struggling with a back injury. There are some other nicks and bruises around the team but nothing serious. The Texans lost tight end Owen Daniels a few weeks ago, which will hurt the passing game.
Betting Edge: Titans
Titans vs Texans betting odds for total: 48
Chris Johnson is a stud back going against an average run defense. Matt Schaub is a stud quarterback going against a terrible pass defense. Expect the points to fly early and often; take the over at your sportsbook.

Titans vs Texans betting breakdown: Outlook and Pick
The Titans have won three straight but it's been against inferior competition. Still, they look very good and Johnson is enjoyed a four-game stretch few have ever seen. That said, the Titans have yet to prove they can stop a half-decent passing game, something Houston has in spades. Tennessee can run the ball well enough to keep it close for a while, but the Texans passing game will prove too much.
