Online sports betting betting will be all the rage this weekend as the NFL’s most storied rivalry resumes with the marquee matchup of the week. The storylines are endless—divisional rivals, the two richest franchises in the league and…it’s all in the name, Redskins vs. Cowboys!

Jim Zorn’s Redskins came out of the gate looking miserable in Week 1. Quarterback Jason Campbell appeared lost in the West Coast offense that Zorn brought to D.C. and receivers Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle-El seemed ill-suited for the system.

All that has changed, as Campbell has proven to be the athletic quarterback Zorn had hoped for, and the Redskins receivers are having a field day touching the ball more often than they ever have.

For the Cowboys, it’s been business as usual. With the Patriots appearing to be spiraling downwards, Dallas has become the Super Bowl favorite on most NFL betting lines. Tony Romo has developed near-legendary chemistry with tight end Jason Witten, going to him seven times in last week’s 27-16 victory over the Green Bay Packers.

In addition, Marion Barber seemed more than capable of handling the rushing duties on his own, contrary to preseason skepticism, rumbling for 142 yards and a touchdown.

Redskins vs. Cowboys odds have the Redskins slated as heavy underdogs in this one, likely due to oddsmakers’ skepticism about their rush defense. Aging Cardinals rusher Edgerrin James put up 93 yards on 18 carries last week, and with defensive end Jason Taylor now on the shelf, the ’Skins will struggle to contain Barber and Felix Jones.

The absence of Taylor will likely give Romo even more time than he normally has in the pocket to find targets such as Terrell Owens and Patrick Crayton. On the other hand, the Cowboys seem content sitting in a prevent defense (as seen in Week 2’s Eagles matchup) and getting involved in a shootout.

STAN’S PICK: The Cowboys should roll in this one, but they might make it interesting. Naturally, the Redskins are going to air it out, and if the Eagles (a very similar offense) showed us anything, it’s that Cowboys can be scored upon—outscoring them is still the problem.

Look for Cowboys vs. Redskins betting to go over the total of 47 and for the Cowboys to cover the spread.

Stan Simmons first tasted football through the college game, but his football handicapping has strictly focused on the professional sport. Not many people devote as much time to the NFL as Simmons. For six days a week he works, labors and handicaps the sport, and on the seventh he rests as the games play out. Thoughts or questions?
