College football betting – Rose Bowl odds are “Granddaddy of Them All"
Bet sports online: College football’s “Granddaddy of Them All”
UPDATE
BLAKE’S PICK: Penn State vs USC odds have made the Trojans a 10-point favorite in their fourth straight Rose Bowl appearance, and USC brings the nation’s best defense to the table. The Nittany Lions are no slouches either, and this game will be much closer than people think. These two have split their only two meetings but, given their proximity to the Rose Bowl Stadium, USC should enjoy “homefield” advantage. Bet online with the USC Trojans.
The Nittany Lions finished with an 11-1 record and the Big Ten title, while 11-1 USC rolled to the Pac-10 title. These two will meet for the Rose Bowl on January 1, 2009 at 4:30 PM ET in Pasadena, CA.

As the college football season heads for the stretch run, NCAA bowl betting should be entering your mind. You can’t think about bowl games without the Rose Bowl, aka the “Granddaddy of Them All”. This is annually the highest-attended bowl game in the NCAA, so you can expect 2009 Rose Bowl betting to be one of the most anticipated times of the season for offshore sportsbooks.
The Rose Bowl is the oldest of the bowl games, kicking off the New Year’s Eve tradition in 1902, when Michigan routed Stanford 49-0 (the Cardinal invoked a mercy rule in the third quarter).
The Rose Bowl historically pits the champion of the Pac-10 against the Big Ten champion, unless one of those teams are in the BCS championship game. The Rose Bowl has become USC’s personal playground, as its 23 wins in the Rose is by far the most in history, followed by Big Ten power Michigan with eight.
The Trojans have appeared in four of the last five Rose Bowls, winning three, but they may be remembered best for their lone loss. In 2006, USC and Texas staged an epic for the ages. The Trojans came in as Rose Bowl betting favorites with a seven-point spread, given their strength in this game and their proximity to the Rose Bowl Stadium.
But in this national-championship decider between unbeaten teams, Texas had no interest in unfavorable Rose Bowl odds. The Longhorns’ Vince Young outdueled USC Heisman winners Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush in a 41-38 classic. However, USC has shifted the Rose Bowl betting power back to the Pac-10, as it’s rolled to dominating wins over Michigan and Illinois in recent years.
Offshore sport betting fans can expect another big spectacle for 2009 Rose Bowl odds and, as usual, the Trojans figure to be in the mix somewhere. USC is battling California and Oregon State this year in the Pac-10; its meeting with the Golden Bears on November 8 is massive, as the Trojans were already upset by the Beavers.
In the Big Ten, Penn State looks to have the inside track to the Rose Bowl, unless it remains undefeated and wins a trip to the BCS title game. Ohio State and Michigan State will be waiting in the wings should the Nittany Lions fall.
2009 Rose Bowl betting would be especially interesting if the Buckeyes took on the Trojans, as they’d be looking to avenge their 35-3 beating at USC earlier this year when Heisman candidate Beanie Wells was hurt. At the time, they weren’t starting freshman Terrelle Pryor at quarterback. No matter
