2009 FedEx Cup Odds - Mahan’s consistency pays off in FedEx Cup glory
This year’s 2009 FedEx Cup betting odds are favoring a former winner of the PGA’s playoffs, and the prohibitive favorite whenever he tees it up. However, the surprise winner of this year’s playoffs has been one of the most consistent golfers all year from tee to green, and he offers a big reward for golf betting players who want to take a risk.
2009 FedEx Cup odds: Steady-hand Mahan tames Tiger, PGA Tour
- Woods, Stricker have proven themselves in FedEx Cup
- Kim follows Villegas’ lead from last year with hot putter
- Harrington finally starting to come around
Tiger Woods won the inaugural FedEx Cup in 2007, but a knee injury forced him to be unable to defend his title. The world’s No.1 player didn’t win a major this year, but he comes in as the offshore sportsbook favorite at -300 due to five wins in 13 events, while leading the PGA Tour in scoring average, and ranking in the top 20 of virtually every important statistic. He’s also won all four tournaments in the past, except for the Barclays. Steve Stricker is the best bet in the sports betting field at +220, and the veteran seems to love the FedEx Cup playoffs: he won his first stroke-play event in 13 years at the 2007 Barclays. Stricker has finished in the top 20 in seven of eight FedEx Cup events, but he is coming off a missed-cut in the PGA Championship. Still, he’s made 15 of 18 cuts this year, and he’s finished in the top 10 in eight of those 15 events. Phil Mickelson (+1000) and Geoff Ogilvy (+2000) are next in your sportsbook, but Mickelson’s lack of golf has hurt him this year, and Ogilvy hasn’t broken the top 20 in his last four starts. However, Anthony Kim (+2500) is one to watch despite a 51st-place showing in the PGA Championship. Camilo Villegas (+4000) lit up last year’s FedEx Cup with a flurry of birdies, and Kim leads the Tour in putting and he’s fourth in birdies. If he can sort out his wayward driver, the 23-year-old could be a great value pick when you’re betting online for these 2009 FedEx Cup odds. Don’t look now, but Padraig Harrington is the darkhorse to watch at +4000 after racking up two straight top-10s. The swing changes he made look to be finally paying off, and he had a great chance at winning both the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and the PGA Championship if it wasn’t for an 8 on both scorecards. MARCO'S PICK: This year’s prediction has 2009 FedEx Cup odds of +5000, but Hunter Mahan has been one of the best golfers on the planet this year. He’s made the cut in 19 of 20 events, with six top-10s, and four of those have come in his last five starts. He finished in the top 20 in three of four majors, and the top 10 in two of them, and he’s also fourth on the Tour in scoring average. If you want a safe choice, then obviously Tiger Woods is the wagering choice, but if you want to take an educated chance, go with the consistent Hunter Mahan in your offshore sportsbook.
