Bay Hill Odds – Woods “King” of Arnie’s tournament

Posted by Marco Sussman on 8/31/2009 7:08:53 AM
bay hill oddsGolf betting odds heavily favor Tiger Woods to repeat as the champion of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which is hosted by the legendary “King” at Bay Hill Club and Lodge, which he has owned since 1976. Woods won in typical Tiger fashion in 2008, but sportsbook players should take a look through the online betting options, as Bay Hill usually has one of the strongest fields on the PGA Tour.

Bay Hill odds: Tiger the favorite, but Perry will surprise

  • WHAT: The Arnold Palmer Invitational
  • WHEN: Thursday, March 26 to Sunday, March 29
  • WHERE: Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando, FL
  • KEY STATS: Tiger Woods has won this event five times
  • PICK: Kenny Perry

Woods is the favorite according to Bay Hill odds at +225, and his tough birdie putt on the 72nd hole of last year’s tournament sealed his fifth win here. The world’s No. 1 played very well at Doral in the WGC-CA Championship, but Woods' putter let him down, which is definitely a sign of rust.

Bay Hill odds:
Tiger Woods +225
Retief Goosen +2200
Jim Furyk +2800
Kenny Perry +2800
Anthony Kim +2800
Vijay Singh +3300
Robert Allenby +4000
Sean O’Hair +4000
David Toms +4000
Nick Watney +4000
The Field +500

Retief Goosen won for the first time on the PGA Tour since 2005 with last week’s victory in the Transitions Championship, and the two-time U.S. Open champion has Arnold Palmer Invitational odds of +2200 this weekend. Goosen has four top-25 finishes in nine trips to Bay Hill and, if the greens are fast, watch out: the “Goose” is probably the Tour’s best putter on slick greens.

Those who bet on sports should stay away from Vijay Singh, who won this event in 2007 and has Bay Hill odds of +3300. The veteran has struggled this year since having surgery on his knee, and he had to withdrawal from last week’s event due to injury. Singh is trying to gear up for the Masters, but the injury may be just too much for the 46-year-old.

If you’re looking for a golf odds underdog this weekend, take a look at Nick Watney, who has Bay Hill odds of +4000. Watney’s been playing as well as anyone on Tour lately, dueling with Phil Mickelson on Sunday two weeks ago at Doral, and then a strong 12th-place finish on a tough Copperhead course last week. Watney finished 21st at Bay Hill last year and, with the way he’s playing right now, the 27-year-old should be in the hunt for a Top-10 or more this weekend.

MARCO’S PICKS: Woods is the easy golf betting pick here, given his past dominance at Bay Hill. He’ll contend, but he is just trying to get his game in shape for the Masters in two weeks.

Your pick this weekend should be Kenny Perry, who has Bay Hill odds of +2800. The 48-year-old has a solid record here with a win in 2005 and four top-25s in 13 starts. Bay Hill depends heavily on ball-striking, and Perry is one of the best there is on the Tour. With four top-10s and a victory in his first eight starts, the Kentuckian is keeping up the momentum from last year, so bet on Kenny Perry and his sports betting lines this weekend.

Marco Sussman isn't too bad on the links, reportedly a five handicap. But, he's great in the sports betting game. He'll watch just about anything you put in front of him, but golf is what really gets his juices flowing. Thoughts or questions? Email Comments@BetOnline.com.
