Bob Hope Classic Odds – Clark finally gets first win on PGA Tour

Golf Odds: Pick Tim Clark +2000

Online betting players should get ready for a shootout at this week’s Bob Hope Classic, which rotates between four courses in Southern California and rated as the easiest courses on the PGA Tour last year. Pat Perez won in 2009 with a -33 under par, so this year’s winner will have to know their way around the green. Tim Clark was 11th in putting last year, and look for him to put that to good use this weekend.

WHAT: Golf betting
WHEN: Wednesday, January 20-Sunday, January 24, 2010
WHERE:
La Quinta Country Club, La Quinta, CA
SilverRock Resort, La Quinta, CA
Nicklaus Private at PGA West, La Quinta, CA
Palmer Private at PGA West, La Quinta, CA
KEY STAT: The average winning score at this event since 2000 is -28.2

Mike Weir is the favorite at +1800, and the 2003 winner will be making his season debut at a place that suits his game perfectly. Weir, who finished T-3 last year, is great with his irons, and he finished in the top 25 of his last four events of 2009, including a sxith-place result in the Frys.com Open.

There is a trio of challengers rated at +2000, including Tim Clark, Ryan Moore, Justin Rose and Chad Campbell, who won this event in 2006. Campbell and Clark finished in the top 10 of last year’s Bob Hope Classic, while Rose finished third here in 2007, and Moore posted a top-five in 2008, so they’ve all had success here.

Sportsbook players may want to take a look at Justin Leonard, who won in 2005 and finished second in 2008. Leonard is rated at +2500, and he’s a great putter. That’s great in this event, which is known as much for its celebrity participation, and the courses are easy. This means it’s a birdie-fest for pros, and Leonard is wonderful on the greens.

A bigger reward would be taking Charley Hoffman at +3500, and beginning with his 2007 win, Hoffman has three straight top-20 finishes in this event. This will be his first tournament of the year, but he’ll have good memories to build on here: he shot 64-65 on the weekend in 2009.

Todd’s Pick: It’s all about flagsticks and irons here, so we’re going with Tim Clark to get his first PGA win. He shot under par for the final three rounds of last week’s Sony Open, finishing 25th, but he hit 73.6% of his greens-in-regulation, and he’s a very good putter as well. Clark was T-5 here last year, firing a 63 on Friday, so he can get hot. Go with the veteran South African, Tim Clark.
