Now that the PGA’s four majors are done for the year with Padraig Harrington's stirring win at the PGA Championship last weekend, the focus of the tour now switches to the race for the Fedex Cup, which begins on August 21st. This week's stop is the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club, and the defending champion is Brandt Snedeker, who won his first PGA event here. However, PGA betting odds say that veteran Vijay Singh is the man to beat this week.
Fiji's Singh is the favorite at +1000 golf betting lines, but he has been inconsistent over the last two months. The world's No.5 player has a win and a fifth-place finish to go with two missed-cuts in the British Open and PGA Championship. Singh's putting let him down at the PGA, which is odd considering how much practice time he puts in.
England's Paul Casey has been solid over the last month, racking up a seventh-place finish in the British Open, an eighth-place finish at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational (won by Singh), and he came in 15th in the PGA. Casey seems to finding his form at just the right time, and he looks to be ready to cash in on his tremendous potential. Casey has PGA sportsbook odds of +1600 for this event.
Tim Clark is a surprise bet at +2500, considering that he has only three top-20 finishes since a second-place finish at Colonial back in May. After ten years in the pro ranks, the South African is still searching for his first win on the PGA Tour.
Snedeker is one spot behind Clark in the world rankings at No. 44, and last year's Rookie of the Year is having an indifferent sophomore campaign. He finished 43rd at the WGC-Bridgestone after three consecutive missed-cuts, and then followed it up with a 24th-place finish at the PGA. It is either feast or famine for the 27-year-old American, who has missed seven cuts, but he also has five top-tens, and two of those came in major championships. Snedeker comes in at +2800 for this event.
Marco's Analysis: This will be the last chance many golfers have to make the FedEx Cup playoffs, so expect an exciting weekend. I am going to go out on a limb and take Jeev Milkha Singh, who plays most of his golf on the European Tour. Singh is coming off a solid ninth-place at the PGA Championship, and he has 17 wins worldwide, along with a NCAA Division-II Championship back in 1993. At PGA betting odds of +3300, the “other” Singh has great value, and he has the skills to compete with the Tour's best.
Marco Sussman isn't too bad on the links, reportedly a five handicap. But, he's great in the sports betting game. He'll watch just about anything you put in front of him, but golf is what really gets his juices flowing. Thoughts or questions?
