Ryder Cup odds - 37th edition ready to tee off
Offshore sportsbook odds – 37th Ryder Cup ready to tee off
- Garcia tops European team
- Mickelson leads Tiger-less Americans
- Expect US rookies to make impact on home soil
The 37th edition of the Ryder Cup is preparing to tee off on September 19-21 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, and the teams have been chosen in full. Ryder Cup betting odds still favor the European team to win its fourth straight title and, if they do, you can be sure Sergio Garcia will have a large hand in the victory. However, the Americans, led by Phil Mickelson, will not go down easily.
Garcia is the favored golfer to score the most points for the Europeans in this event, and one look at his career record at the Ryder Cup shows why. The fiery Spaniard has played in four Ryder Cups, posting a 14-4-0 record overall, and he is a perfect 8-0-0 in foursomes.
There’s been a Ryder Cup theory for years by those who love betting on sports that the Europeans play a better team game than their American counterparts and Garcia, for all of his faults on the PGA Tour, is a microcosm of this.
Padraig Harrington and Lee Westwood are next with golf odds of +550 to claim the highest point-getter for Europe. They’ve played some of the best golf on the team. Harrington, of course, won a pair of majors this year and should be in the PGA Player of the Year running, while Westwood finished in the top 11 of two majors, including a third-place finish at the US Open.
Harrington is 7-8-2 in four Ryder Cups while Westwood is 14-8-3 in five Ryder Cups, including 6-2-2 in foursomes action.
Mickelson will be playing in his seventh Ryder Cup, and Ryder Cup odds say he will be the leading American point-getter at +400. However, the world’s No. 2 player hasn’t exactly set this event on fire with a mark of 9-12-4, and singles is the only competition in which he has a .500 record (3-3-0).
Jim Furyk, who is rated at +500, is even worse with a record of 6-12-2. Mr. Consistency had better stay away from fourballs as well, picking up a 1-6-1 mark in that event. However, these are the players that need to step up for the Americans, as six golfers will make their Ryder Cup debuts at Valhalla.
Marco’s Pick: For the Europeans, Sergio Garcia would be the best bet as he has been playing the best golf as of late with four consecutive top-20s, including three top-fives. Not to mention, he LOVES playing in the Ryder Cup and, perhaps because he’s taking a leadership role, Garcia will finally mature into the player we all know he can be.
On the American side, the leading point-getter should come from a group of Anthony Kim (+650 Ryder Cup odds), Kenny Perry (+1000) and Steve Stricker (+1000). All three are playing in their first Cup. Perry would love to play well in his hometown, while Stricker is one of the best putters on the Tour—which is crucial in foursomes. Kim is young, fearless, loves to take on the world’s best and has harnessed his formidable skills. I would bet on Anthony Kim to make a big splash in his Ryder Cup debut.
Marco Sussman isn't too bad on the links, reportedly a five handicap. But, he's great in the sports betting game. He'll watch just about anything you put in front of him, but golf is what really gets his juices flowing. Thoughts or questions? Email Comments@BetOnline.com.
