The Travelers Odds feature more big names than you’d expect considering the U.S. Open ran straight into Monday. The biggest question facing golf betting fans is whether or not surprise champ Lucas Glover, who was a 175-1 underdog, can carry his success to TPC River Highlands this week.
Travelers Odds: Shotmaking more important than driving at this tournament
- WHAT: The Travelers Championship
- WHEN: Thursday, June 25 to Sunday, June 28
- WHERE: TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, CT
- KEY STAT: In 2008, 10 of the top 12 finishers shot in the 60s all four rounds
- THE PICK: Anthony Kim +2550
Before we launch into the Glover talk, let’s talk about the bigger sportsbook favorites. Hunter Mahan leads the field at +1415 and his odds are totally justified. His last three finishes in the Travelers Odds: second, first, second. He owns this tournament, hasn’t missed a cut in 15 starts this season and converts his birdie tries well.
Some Travelers Odds bettors probably still think Kenny Perry (+2050) is a good play. His peripheral ball striking stats are good, as always, and he has seven top-10s in 20 starts here, but I’ll keep discouraging you from picking him until he proves he’s over his Masters collapse. His finishes since then: 59th, 22nd, 34th, 27th, and 44th. Included among them were several tournaments he’d won before.
Stewart Cink is intriguing at +2250. It hasn’t been a banner year for him by any means, but he has two top-10s and had a respectable weekend at the U.S. Open before faltering Monday. He’s the defending champion at the Travelers Odds and has 10 top-fives in 11 starts at the tournament. You can’t ignore him when you examine this week’s sports betting lines.
Anthony Kim has been a bust with a capital B this season, but his Travelers Odds of +2550 deserve consideration. The tourney calls for super-low scores – shotmaking – and Kim has some peripheral stats that set him up nicely to score here. He’s third on tour in birdie average and leads the tour in birdie-conversion percentage. If he gets hot, he could post some seriously low numbers.
Last but not least, we have the reigning U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover. His Travelers Odds are still modest at +3350. On one hand, he could be riding a high. On the other hand, there’s a good chance he’ll be exhausted after the grinding through Bethpage Black. His value is solid but I think he’s a trap pick this week.
MARCO’S PICK: I’ll take a risk here and go with Anthony Kim. He’s a high-risk, high gain player, making lots of birdies and bogies. Since TPC River Highlands plays quite easy compared to other Tour events, the red figures should pile up for him. Bet on Anthony Kim to break his slump and take the Travelers odds.

Marco Sussman isn't too bad on the links, reportedly a five handicap. But, he's great in the sports betting game. He'll watch just about anything you put in front of him, but golf is what really gets his juices flowing. Thoughts or questions?
